Sinj Time Machine: Let's Go Back to 1715 When it All Began!

August 10, 2022 - The Sinj Tourist Board is bringing it back to when it all began. Jump in the Sinj time machine and enjoy the annual reenactment of the Battle of Sinj 1715!

Organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, a reenactment of the famous and artistically immortalized Battle of Sinj 1715 will take place, along with the events that preceded it, on August 11 (Thursday) at 20:30 at Trg Kralja Tomislava (Market). The event will celebrate its 16th edition this year.

The historical spectacle takes place in two acts. The first act is staged at Pijaca, Sinj's main square, when the Ottomans dramatically and violently attacked and conquered the town of Sinj, burned the church, and took the people into slavery. Incredibly realistic light and sound effects contribute to the authenticity of the scenes. The second act takes place in the original setting of Alkarski dvori, the former Apartments. Despite the almost hopeless situation, the Defense Council does not think twice and defends its city against a more numerous, superior, and powerful enemy. According to tradition, it was with Our Lady's help that the Ottomans were defeated, and Sinj was freed from the threat of the enemy to keep Christianity. Led by Fr. Pavlo Vučković (embodied by the high school professor, scientist, writer, editor, and publisher Fr. Gabrijel Hrvatin Jurišić), the joyful and grateful faithful have celebrated their patron saint ever since with even greater fervor.

Sinj Village Fair 2022 Held During Alka Festivities in August!

July 26, 2022 - For the 12th time, the Sinj Tourist Board will hold the Sinj Village Fair 2022, which includes an exhibition, tasting, and sale of traditional Croatian products: food, drinks, and souvenirs.

The Sinj Village Fair 2022 is held during the Alka festivities on August 5 and 6, 2022, when Sinj becomes the center of cultural, religious, and tourist events in Split-Dalmatia County and beyond.

By organizing the event, the Sinj Tourist Board gives interested citizens and visitors a chance to taste and buy local traditional products that are difficult for consumers to access because they are not available for sale. At the same time, it helps small and medium-sized farms from the rural area of Sinj and its surroundings, as well as other parts of Croatia, in promoting and selling their products.

An even larger number of exhibitors is expected this year. Therefore, the organizers needed to provide a larger space and even more tables for exhibitors, as they are expected from all over Croatia, of which at least 40% will be local producers.

"We emphasize the importance of this Fair to promote the rich tourist and cultural heritage, as well as the generous offer of agricultural producers and souvenir producers, all to develop the tourism, culture, and economic development of our city.

Also, in this way, all visitors will have the opportunity to stock their holiday tables with quality products from the Croatian countryside during these festive days in our city (Alkar celebrations and the Feast of the Assumption) and make their personal contribution to the Sinj economy and improving tourism," concluded the Sinj Tourist Board.

Applications to exhibit at the Fair can be submitted via e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., contact phone number 021/826-352, or by coming in person to the Sinj Tourist Board office at Put Petrovca 12, 21230 Sinj.

The application must contain the name and surname of the exhibitor, the name of the association, trade, OPG, etc., the registration number of the delivery vehicle, the contact number, and the number of days for which the exhibitor is applying. Participation in the Fair is free, and the Sinj Tourist Board provides stands for each registered exhibitor.

Due to the limited number of exhibitors, applications will be received until August 4 at 12 pm or until capacity is filled.

International Folklore Meetings Begin in Split-Dalmatia County!

July 14, 2022 - International Folklore Meetings is the name of a joint manifestation that has been organized for years in the cities and municipalities of Split-Dalmatia County by local folklore societies and cultural and artistic organizations.

The event is supported by their local self-government units, tourist boards, Split-Dalmatia County, and numerous sponsors and donors, and more recently by connecting with international folklore festivals in the Republic of Croatia under patronage of the International Association of Folklore Festivals and CIOFF groups.

The first initiative was given by KUD "Ante Zaninović" from Kaštel Kambelovac to organize a modest folklore evening called ˝Za jubav tance igraše˝ two decades ago. Soon after, KUD ˝Pleter˝ from Dugopolje joined the event by organizing a folklore evening aptly named ˝Ljepota u kamenu kamenitom“. A year later, KUD ˝Branimir 888˝ from Muć connected their traditional folklore event "The old chest is open" to the meetings. Finally, seven summers ago, KUD ˝Dalmatia˝ from Dugi Rat joined the international folklore meetings with its folklore ceremony called "Kolo, kolo, kolajna od zlata."

KOLO_KOLAJNA_OD_ZLATA_-_PLAKAT.jpeg

So far, folklore groups from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Lithuania, Serbia, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Canada, Hungary, and Ukraine have participated. During the past years, almost 2,000 performers from around 100 different folklore groups from 18 countries performed on the summer stages in Kaštela, Muć, Dugopolje, and Dugi Rat. This year, in the international part of the program, guests from Colombia, the United States of America, Slovakia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will show their skills in singing and performing traditional dances.

LJEPOTA_U_KAMENU_KAMENITOM_-_PLAKAT.png

After a two-year hiatus, this now transcontinental folklore program will undoubtedly enrich the programs of cultural summers on the coast of our county and in Inland Dalmatia. The meeting is held in two coastal and two coastal towns in the county in four days.

Program:

Friday, July 15, Dugi Rat: 6th international meetings „Kolo, kolo, kolajna od zlata“
Saturday, July 16, Muć: 19th International Folklore Festival ˝Stara je skrinjja is open˝
Sunday, July 17, Kaštel Kambelovac: 20th international meeting ˝Za jubav tance igraše˝
Monday, July 18, Dugopolje: 17th International Folklore Meeting ˝Ljepota u kamenu kamenitom˝

Idaho Xpress, Burley, Idaho, USA
Folklore Ensemble "Rovina", Dlhe Klčovo, Slovakia
KUD "Ilinden", Bitola, North Macedonia
KUD "Tribanj Bila," Livno, Bosnia, and Herzegovina

In addition to the joint performances of folklore groups from Colombia, the USA, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia, every evening has its specialty, where local folklore societies will also perform. After two full years without the folklore "caravan" due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the announcement of the International Folklore Meetings, all KUD hosts want to organize such meetings as a unique international folklore event in Split-Dalmatia County.

June 13, 2022 - The first Marian Shrines Spiritual Heritage Congress will be held from June 17 to 19.

The Blessed Virgin Mary has always been a great support and heavenly advocate for the Croatian people. Croats have always worshiped and prayed for her help in difficult times and troubles, and with great confidence honored her out of gratitude as a queen and the most faithful lawyer.

An endless number of pilgrims, of all generations and from all parts of the country and beyond, come to Sinj with only one goal - to kneel and fold their arms before the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, to bow to silent prayer, to pray and give thanks to the heavenly Mother, to light a candle before Our Lady and open your heart to Her grace. The miraculous Our Lady of Sinj is the heavenly patroness of the city of Sinj, so City Day is celebrated on August 15.

The goal of this meeting is to popularize and thus preserve the existing sacral heritage of Croatian Marian shrines in the long run. Marian shrines are beacons of hope for all believers, so the idea is to contribute to their preservation by developing sacral tourism, and thus local communities while attaching importance to spirituality and religion in order to preserve the primary function of the shrines themselves.

The Marian Shrines Spiritual Heritage Congress will include shrines from Marija Bistrica, Trsat, Nin, Voćin, Solin, and Sinj (and/or others) from Croatia, as well as Marian shrines of the Croatian people in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Thus, the shrine on the Shield in Prozor (Rama), which is connected with Sinj with the Miraculous Image of the Mother of Mercy, and the southernmost Marian shrine of the Croatian people, the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy in the Bay of Kotor, will attend this gathering.
