June 8, 2022 - In the newest TCN series, we take a look at the destinations you can visit by ferry from the main Croatian ports. In this first installment of the Croatia Ferry Guide 2022, where to go from the port of Split?

When advertising the Adriatic Sea and the Croatian islands abroad, the experience of being on board a sailboat, yacht or catamaran is usually highlighted. However, there is no destination a Croatian ferry can't reach, and why not mention that it's totally worth saving a good amount of Euros on sailboat rentals and crews?

Today we tell you more about the destinations you can reach from the ferry port of Split.

First of all, how to buy your ferry tickets? There are three ways. The first is via the official Jadrolinija website. In it, you can not only see the updated sailing schedules, but you can also buy your tickets online. Simply choose the port of departure, the port of destination and the date of your trip, and you will find the available times. Once you have chosen the time and the number of tickets, in addition to completing all your personal information, you can proceed to pay for your tickets online with a credit or debit card.

The second way is through the official Jadrolinija mobile app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Playstore for Android. The application is very easy to use and, just like on the website, just select the port of departure and you will be able to see the ports that you can travel to from the one you selected. The process is very similar, and you will find that it is even more comfortable and intuitive to use. Payment also allows the use of credit and debit cards.

Finally, the third type of payment is the most traditional and has its benefits. All ferry ports in Croatia have a Jadrolinija office, where you can go to buy your tickets in person. Sometimes one can be a bit confused before buying their tickets both on the website and in the app, so having a Jadrolinija agent to guide you is a great help.

Where is the Split Ferry Port located? It is probably one of the best strategically positioned, as it is only a five-minute walk from the Riva. In addition, it is in the same area as the main bus and train stations, in case you need to board your ferry just when you arrive. Split's ferry port is one of the largest, and you'll want to make sure you check your ticket routing to find the right area to board your ferry or catamaran. Don't forget that in the port there is a screen that indicates where to find your ferry, as well as an office to answer any questions.

Ancona

Along with Bari, Ancona is one of the Italian destinations that one can travel to by ferry from Croatia. Passengers can choose to travel on deck (a single ticket is 363 kunas in June and July, and 483 kunas in August), reserve a seat (a single ticket is 412 kunas in June and July, and 543 kunas in August), or travel in cabins. The prices for a room with two cabins vary between 605 kunas and 1148 kunas depending on the month and the facilities available in the room. The prices for a room with four cabins vary between 605 kunas and 1148  kunas depending on the month and the facilities available in the room. Ferries from Split to Ancona will usually run once a day, with three possible schedules: departing at 10:00 am and arriving at 19:00 pm, departing at 20:00 and arriving at 7:00 am, and departing at 21:00 pm and arriving at 7:00 am.

Bol, Brač

At the time this article was written, Jadrolinija offers a catamaran that leaves Split every day at 4:30 p.m. and arrives in Bol at 5:40 p.m. (1 hour and 10 minutes of travel), with a price of 63 kunas per individual adult ticket (the individual ticket for children from 3 to 12 years old is 30 kunas and those under 3 years old travel free). Starting June 16, Jadrolinija will introduce another catamaran that leaves Split at 3:30 p.m. and arrives in Bol at 4:30 p.m. (1-hour trip), priced at 130 kunas per adult single ticket (ticket individual for children from 3 to 12 years old is 130 kuna and those under 3 years old travel free).

Dubrovnik

One can travel by catamaran from Split to the Pearl of the Adriatic from June 16th. The catamaran will leave once a day at 15:30 from the port of Split and will arrive at 21:25 in Dubrovnik. The price of each ticket for adults and for children from 3 to 12 years old is 240 kuna.

Hvar Town

Through the Jadrolinija company, one can travel to Hvar town by catamaran at three different times: leaving Split at 8:30 am and arriving in Hvar at 9:35 am, leaving Split at 11:00 am and arriving in Hvar at 12:05 pm and leaving Split at 15:00 pm and arriving in Hvar at 16:05 pm. From June 16, one more catamaran line will be added, leaving Split at 15:30 pm and arriving in Hvar at 17:35 pm. Individual ticket prices are 110 kunas, except for the line from 15:00-16:05 (children from 3 to 12 years old pay 30 kunas, and adults pay 63 kunas).

Jelsa, Hvar

Also in Hvar, passengers can travel to Jelsa from Split by catamaran. There is only one schedule per day, with the catamaran departing from Split at 16:30 pm and arriving in Jelsa at 18:10 pm. The individual price of a ticket for an adult is 63 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 30 kunas.

Korčula

The trip from Split to the city of Korčula is by catamaran, with only one schedule per day. The catamaran departs from Split at 15:30 pm and arrives in the city of Korčula at 19:10 pm. The price of each ticket for both adults and children is 150 kuna.

Rogač, Šolta

Those interested in going to the island of Šolta can do it through the ferry that leaves from the port of Split and arrives in the town of Rogač. There are up to five daily schedules, and they are as follows: 6:45 am - 7:45 am, 9:15 am - 10:15 am, 11:45 am - 12:45 pm, 16:15 pm - 17:15 pm, and 20:30 pm - 21:30 pm. The prices of each ticket are 41 kunas and tickets for children from 3 to 12 years old cost 20.5 kunas.

Stari Grad, Hvar

Apart from Hvar Town and Jelsa, one can also go by ferry to the beautiful town of Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. There are up to five daily schedules, and they are as follows: 5:00 am - 7:00 am, 8:30 am - 10: 30 am, 11:00 am - 13:00 pm, 14:30 pm - 16:30 pm, and 20:30 pm - 22:30 pm. The prices of each ticket are 55 kunas and tickets for children from 3 to 12 years old cost 27.5 kunas.

Supetar, Brač

Along with Rogač on the island of Šolta, Supetar on the island of Brač may be the closest destination to the port of Split. Therefore, one can find up to 12 daily ferry trips. They are as follows: 5:15 am - 6:05 am, 6:15 am - 7:05 am, 7:30 am - 8:20 am, 9:00 am - 9:50 am, 10:45 am - 11 :35 am, 12:30 pm - 1:20 pm, 2:15 pm - 3:05 pm, 4:30 pm - 5:20 pm, 6:00 pm - 6:50 pm, 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm :20 p.m., 9:30 p.m. - 9:50 p.m., and 11:59 p.m. - 00:49 a.m. The prices of each ticket are 41 kunas and tickets for children from 3 to 12 years old cost 20.5 kunas.

Ubli, Lastovo

To travel to the sunny island of Lastovo, one can do it in two ways from the port of Split. Two ferry lines and one catamaran sail daily to Lastovo. The first ferry leaves in the morning, sometimes at 10:15 am and arriving in Lastovo at 15:30 pm, and other times at 10:30 am and also arriving at 15:30 pm. The other ferry leaves Split in the evening at 17:30 pm and arrives in Lastovo at 22:00 pm. The catamaran leaves at 15:00 pm and arrives in Lastovo at 18:25 pm. The price of the ferry ticket is 73 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 38 kunas. The catamaran ticket price is 78 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 37 kunas.

Vela Luka, Korčula

The other destination one can travel from Split to the island of Korčula is the town of Vela Luka. Two ferry lines and one catamaran sail daily to Vela Luka. The first ferry leaves in the morning, sometimes at 10:15 am and arriving in Vela Luka at 13:15 pm, and other times at 10:30 am and arriving at 13:30 pm. The other ferry leaves Split in the afternoon at 17:30 pm and arrives in Vela Luka at 20:15 pm. The catamaran leaves at 15:00 pm and arrives in Vela Luka at 17:20 pm. The price of the ferry ticket is 68 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 34 kunas. The catamaran ticket price is 68 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 32 kunas.

Vis

Finally, you will find two ferries and a catamaran that can take you daily to the island of Vis. The first ferry leaves in the morning from the Split port at 11:00 am and arrives in Vis at 13:20 pm. The other ferry leaves Split in the afternoon at 18:30 pm and arrives in Vis at 20:50 pm. The catamaran leaves at 15:00 pm and arrives in Vela Luka at 16:25 pm. The price of the ferry ticket is 62 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 31 kunas. The catamaran ticket price is 62 kunas and for children from 3 to 12 years old it is 31 kunas.

May the 19th, 2022 - Three Jadrolinija ferries which have gained ''legend'' status in their own respective rights, Premuda, Tijat and Postira, are all set to be replaced as the company moves towards new goals.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, for the very first time, Jadrolinija has initiated the procedure of purchasing fully electric vessels that will transport passengers in the Dubrovnik, Sibenik and Losinj areas, as was confirmed by the President of the Management Board of the national shipping company, David Sopta, for Rijeka portal Novi list.

A preliminary consultation procedure has since been initiated, as part of the public procurement procedure for three Jadrolinija ferries which will be up to 55 metres long and boast a transport capacity of at least 370 passengers, with fully electric propulsion.

Jadrolinija intends to finance the construction of these new vessels through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, as has been announced on several occasions, Sopta pointed out that this is only the first step in a comprehensive fleet renewal which is set to continue over the coming years, all of which will be in full accordance with the guidelines of the Croatian Government and the European Commission.

"Jadrolinija is continuing the process of investing in its fleet by using electric passenger ships. The boats will be intended for islanders and passengers in the Dubrovnik and Sibenik areas, as well as in the waters around Mali Losinj. This is a big step for Jadrolinija towards turning to green technologies with low greenhouse gas emissions. Jadrolinija is developing, adapting and following the trends of sustainable development, and our goal is for Jadrolinija to become a modern shipping company,'' said Sopta.

The new Jadrolinija ferries will maintain lines between Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands, ie the Elafiti islands, as well as between Sibenik and some of the surrounding island, as well as in Mali Losinj, Unije, Susak, Srakan and Ilovik. The new vessels will replace the already legendary ships; Postira, Tijat and Premuda, which are among the oldest in the national shipping fleet, some of which were built back in the 1950s.

As Novi list has also learned, all of these new Jadrolinija ferries will be fully equipped with additional classic, diesel engines, along with a system of batteries and electric motors, in case of bad weather or any other situation in which electricity will have to be produced on board. Under normal circumstances, the batteries of new ships will be recharged each time they dock in the port, which is why Jadrolinija has already initiated agreements with HEP and local port authorities. Ideally, depending on possible appeals and issues in the tender procedure, the new ships should be launched within about two years.

May the 15th, 2022 - Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac and the Jadrolinija management board's representatives have come together as the height of the summer tourist season rapidly approaches.

As Morski writes, representatives of the Jadroilinija management board met recently at the National and University Library in Zagreb with the Minister of Tourism and Sport, Nikolina Brnjac. The meeting was held as we're now approaching the main part of the tourist year, and Minister Brnjac commented on the current tourist results and expectations from the main summer season.

Along with the President of the Jadrolinija management board, David Sopta, the meeting was attended by various representatives of the Croatian tourism sector, including members of the Croatian Tourist Board and the Council for the Recovery and Development of Tourism, as well as representatives of hotel groups and other professional associations.

''The beginning of 2022 showed an increase in the number of transported passengers and vehicles on national and international lines compared to the same period in 2021. Participating in several tourism events, increased interest in our lines was noticed, so we're very optimistic about the recovery of the market and the return of group tourist trips,'' said the President of the Management Board of Jadrolinija at the meeting.

''The results so far testify that this year we've prepared well and taken all of the necessary activities to strengthen and upgrade the position of Croatia as a desirable tourist destination with high quality and a diverse offer. It's even more important that our emitting markets increasingly recognise Croatia as a year-round destination, which is an important component in the development of the sustainability of Croatian tourism.

When we talk about the value of fiscalised receipts issued for the first four months of this year, we can be very satisfied because on average each month had an increase of 10 percent compared to the same period back during pre-pandemic 2019,'' said Minister Nikolina Brnjac, adding that she believes such good results are set to continue throughout the height of 2022's summer season when we realise 70 percent of 2019's total tourist traffic and 63 percent of that same year's total revenues.

Representatives of the tourism sector said that the demand for Croatia has been extremely good, that the country is one of the leading holiday destinations in its main emitting markets and that they believe that this summer season will continue to yield good results with continued cooperation between the Croatian Government and the entire sector.

According to the Tax Administration, in the first four months of 2022, a total of 5 billion and 457 million kuna in fiscal receipts were realised, which is 170 percent more than in the same period last year, and when compared to the first four months of 2019, the value stands at an encouraging ​​11 percent higher.

So far, more than 1.9 million arrivals and 6.2 million overnight stays have been realised across Croatia, ie 172 percent more arrivals and 154 percent more overnight stays compared to the same period back in 2021.

May 9, 2022 - To make the most of your next vacation, here are some apps that shouldn't be missing from your phone when traveling around Croatia.

Oh yes, the good old days when having a city guide under your arm and an adventurous spirit were enough to travel the world and enjoy it to the fullest. Times have changed, and both the constantly evolving digital age and marketing make us aware of needs we didn't think we had. Today, we book airline tickets and accommodations, navigate with GPS, and change currencies, all on a mobile device.

But this is by no means a critique of the mobile app era. On the contrary, we will use this space to highlight some of the apps that will truly make your next trip easier, relieve the stress, and leave uncertainty while traveling around Croatia aside.

Just a reminder. The apps that we will list below are not necessarily secret or unknown, because some of them (we hope) you should already have installed! Basically, we remind you that the following apps are essential to make your experience in Croatia better.

Google Translate

Let's start off right: communication. Yes, English is spoken in Croatia. And very good English. Some will believe that it has to do only with the tourist context, but there are many reasons to explain the very good level of speaking and understanding of English in Croatia, even in public offices.

However, English is not the official language in Croatia. Croatian is. As a good tourist, you will find that the locals will really appreciate it if you replace some words in your sentences with Croatian ones. After all, it is a difficult language and they know it. You just have to try it and you will notice the gratitude almost immediately. Now, go ahead and use some common words or even dare to ask some questions in Croatian. Not only do we encourage you to do it to create a link with the locals, but also because it will be useful in case English is not enough to make it clear what you need with your host, your waiter at the restaurant, the bus driver, or even a random person in the street.

For this reason, Google Translate is the application that we recommend you to have. Personally, we recommend using their English to Croatian translator, which has more translations and fewer errors. There are other translation apps, but unfortunately, they do not have a Croatian translator or they are not well programmed for that function.

Currency

As you well know, the official currency in Croatia is the Kuna. Although it is very likely that you booked your accommodation and your tickets in euros, dollars, or pounds, once you land in Croatia you will need to know the currency exchange. It is true that you can use your credit or debit card to pay for everything here, but besides being a very good idea to be aware of the exchange rate, it is good to note that some places (such as bars, cafes, tours or activities) charge cash only.

For this reason, before going to the nearest ATM to withdraw money or to an exchange house to change it, we recommend you use the Currency application, where you can see the value of the kuna versus absolutely all the existing currencies in the world. This will be a year of many changes in prices because from January 2023 Croatia will begin its transition process to the Eurozone. Therefore, we could not recommend you more to have this application at hand.

Google Maps

Another app that you should already have installed on your mobile device. Apple Maps is also an option, but from experience, I think Google Maps today is better designed to be used in a country like Croatia. Even the vast majority of satellite images from Google have been recently updated in the country, so it will be a great tool to guide you safely when traveling around Croatia.

In some cities, like Zagreb, the database of the public transport system is synchronized with this application, so it is possible to know exactly which bus or tram should take you to the place you need in real-time. In other cities, like Split, it is even possible to see the ferry routes in 360 views.

Google Maps will definitely be your ideal tool not only to find your accommodation, a good restaurant to eat at, or a secret beach to relax but also to build your itinerary if you plan to travel to several cities in Croatia, evaluate which is the best breakfast option based on its review system, or also to take alternative routes in case you come across a closed street or traffic.

Booking.com

No, we do not have a partnership with Booking.com, and we definitely know that there are numerous alternatives such as Hotels.com, Airbnb, Hostelworld, or Expedia. However, if there is one thing you need to know about accommodation in Croatia, it is that there is more than one type of accommodation. Actually, more than three. Honestly, more than ten. It's hard to count.

Hotels, villas, houses, apartments, rooms, bungalows, camping sites, eco-lodges, hostels... even boats! The offer of accommodation in Croatia is incredibly diverse, and this invites you to be open-minded and correctly evaluate which one will be able to effectively satisfy your dream vacation. Therefore, you need an accommodation search site that brings together all this diversity, and you can find it on Booking.com.

We do not want to recommend an app based on bad experiences, but the truth is that during the high season in Croatia there are many cases of scams to tourists looking for accommodation. Many of them book accommodations that cancel reservations or raise their prices at the last minute, or even didn't exist in the first place! Therefore, having an application like Booking.com is a good idea if you want to see alternatives with ratings and reviews that give you more security before booking your accommodation, as well as being in contact with a customer service that avoids this type of awkward situations.

FlixBus

During summer at its height, transportation alternatives for traveling around Croatia are not in short supply. Trains, planes, ferries, catamarans... you name it. However, the leading transport system in Croatia continues to be buses. Everyone, both locals and tourists, can basically get to any corner of the country, and from anywhere in Europe, by bus.

The German company FlixBus is the best option if you plan to reduce travel costs and choose the bus as your transportation alternative if you travel from another country to Croatia. Its modern fleet will bring you to and from Croatia with the comfort that a well-deserved vacation deserves.

Arriva Croatia

This time, we will add another bus application. Believe it or not, FlixBus is not necessarily the favorite in the country. Although you will see their green buses at all stations and roads in the country, it cannot be said that the margin of preference is as distant as that of Arriva Croatia, and for a special reason. FlixBus, while connecting to almost every city in Croatia, may not reach everywhere. Something that you will find in Arriva Croatia, which not only offers you tickets to big cities like Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Pula or Šibenik, but also to more remote and smaller towns and villages throughout the country (and even the islands and National Parks!).

Likewise, Arriva Croatia has a huge fleet of buses and, therefore, a large number of schedules and competitive prices that will motivate you to compare your options between both companies. At the end of the day, it doesn't hurt to organize a trip around Croatia using buses from both Arriva Croatia and FlixBus. Both have mobile applications that allow you to check their schedules, reserve seats, and download your tickets to your phone.

BlaBlaCar

Here we present a somewhat different transport application. It is the app that almost everyone has recommended to me in Croatia, and very recently I used it for the first time to travel from Zagreb to Rijeka.

BlaBlaCar is a French application that allows you to choose a city or town of departure and destination, and it will give you a list of drivers who will also travel that route on the day you choose to travel. The drivers are the ones who offer their departure and arrival times, as well as the exact departure and arrival points in the respective cities. The choice is yours. You'll be able to see who else will be traveling with you, as well as ratings and reviews from past passengers.

BlaBlaCar is a great alternative if you travel light from one city to another, want to get there faster, and to make it more interesting, to meet people during the trip through good conversations.

Once the driver has been chosen, you will receive a confirmation from him and you will be able to obtain his contact information to coordinate the meeting at the starting point. We recommend that you confirm your trip in advance, and also bring cash as it is generally the preferred form of payment for drivers.

Jadrolinija

What's a Croatia vacation without an island getaway? Of course, the Croatian Adriatic coast is long enough to find a beach that suits your needs, but there is a special feeling of getting on a ferry and exploring one of the more than 1000 Croatian islands. If that is your wish, then make sure you have the Jadrolinija app installed.

Jadrolinija is the national ferry company in Croatia, and while their website or port offices have long been the most common places to buy your tickets, their mobile app is also a great option as you never know when you may be tempted to change your plans and hop on a ferry.

In their app, just choose your departure ferry port and you'll be able to see the destinations you can go to. This will allow you to see your table of times and prices according to the number of passengers. You can also find information about the location of the ferry ports in Croatia. The app allows you to pay by debit card.

Tripadvisor

Although Google Maps has a huge database of reviews and ratings to help you make a decision on where to go, stay or eat, Tripadvisor remains a benchmark among travel guide applications. Perhaps what positions Tripadvisor as a leader in the category is that you only have to enter a destination to which you plan to go to obtain a wide range of possibilities on what to do and see during your trip.

It is an application widely used by companies of all kinds in Croatia, and that is why you will not find it difficult to find tours, activities, or workshops that allow you to have a different vacation. Precisely, you will be able to use the ratings and reviews to validate the quality and reliability of these activities, and not take any risks.

There are all types of tourists, and among them, there are those who do not usually arrive with pre-made itineraries, since for them spontaneity and improvisation add some emotion and a feeling of adventure to their vacations. Therefore, Tripadvisor is a great tool to get inspired and make a list of places to see and things to do in your destination in Croatia.

Uber

It may not have the best public transport in Europe, but Croatia is a country where you can get around without any problems. If time is not an issue for you and you enjoy urban and rural landscapes while onboard a bus or tram, then there is no reason to despair.

However, it is true that from time to time you will have to rush to the airport, the train station, the bus station, or the ferry port or you will lose your trip. Similarly, you never know when you may need to go to a hospital (when it's not an emergency) or maybe you've booked a tour where you have to meet the agency at a certain place and time. In these and many other cases, the virtue of patience is probably not enough and nerves do not allow you to wait for a bus or tram, which sometimes you do not know when they may arrive.

In that sense, it might be a bit obvious that having a taxi app installed is always a good idea. Yes, there are taxis that can take you from the airport to the city and vice versa but don't trust their rates. It is better to grab the WiFi and book the taxi from an app. While many in Croatia will recommend apps like Cammeo or Bolt, I have personally found Uber to be quite reliable and effective, with reasonable and fair rates.

Today's smartphones contain enough storage to install dozens of apps, so you shouldn't feel limited to just these ten. The idea is to travel calmly and happily, so the more apps you find that can help you organize your vacation, the better! Find apps that help you learn about private boat rentals, weather apps, airline apps, apps with biking or hiking trails, and more. Everything helps!

April the 19th, 2022 - The seasonal Jadrolinija Zadar-Ancona ferry line is set to return to function, connecting that Dalmatian city with the Italian port city and the capital of the Marche region across the Adriatic Sea.

As Morski writes, the Coastal and Liner Transport Agency has given Jadrolinija consent to maintain the international line between Zadar and Ancona during 2022's season.

The timetable between the nearest part of the Croatian and Italian coasts across the Adriatic Sea will be made available to use for passengers from June the 23rd to September the 9th, with three different traffic dynamics of the "Marco Polo" ferry. Over these 80 days, the Jadrolinija Zadar-Ancona ferry line be transporting passengers back and forth from these two cities, according to local portal Zadarski.hr.

In the period from June the 23rd to July the 17th, and then from September the 1st to the 9th, the Jadrolinija Zadar-Ancona line will operate once a week. The ferry will depart from Ancona (Italy) on Thursday at 22:00, and will arrive in Zadar (Croatia) on Friday at 07:00. On the same day, more precisely at 10:00, the ferry will return to Ancona from Zadar (17:00).

In the period from July the 18th to August the 18th, when the most traffic associated with the very height of the summer tourist season is expected, the Jadrolinija Zadar-Ancona line will operate twice a week. It will depart from Zadar for Ancona on Mondays at 22:00 (arriving in Ancona on Tuesday at 07:00) and on Fridays at 10:00 (arrival in Ancona at 17:00). Departures from Ancona to Zadar are scheduled for Monday at 10:00 (arriving in Zadar at 18:00), and Thursday at 22:00 (arriving in Zadar at 07:00).

The third version of the timetable refers to the period from the 19th to the 26th of August, when two lines per week are also planned. The ferry's departure from Zadar will take place on Mondays and Fridays at 22:00 (arriving in Ancona on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 07:00), while the ferry will depart for Zadar from Ancona on Mondays and Fridays at 18:00 (arriving in Zadar on Mondays and Fridays at 10:00).

The hydrofoil line last sailed back in 2020, and was discontinued due to low passenger interest and the coronavirus pandemic causing said effect. Its re-establishment, at least during the two and a half months of this year's main summer tourist season, is interpreted as a result of pressure from local politics and State Secretary in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Josip Bilaver, on Jadrolinija's overall management.

ZAGREB, 10 March 2022 - Seafarers employed in the Jadrolinija Croatian national shipping company on Thursday rallied in the port of Gaženica, Zadar, to protest against low pays and the model of overtime payment.

A leader of the independent trade union of seafarers in Jadrolinija, Nikica Grbić, said that the rally had brought together over a hundred seafarers who expressed their dissatisfaction with the retirement package. Gbrić said that upon retirement, former seafarers were paid only HRK 8,000 as severance pay.

The unionist said that the negotiations on the national collective agreement had been ongoing for a decade.

The disgruntled seafarers criticized the current acting chairman of the Jadrolinija board, David Sopta, claiming he is incompetent.

January the 21st, 2022 - The Croatian ferry company Jadrolinija is set to add a further six vessels to its fleet throughout 2022. The move brings with it some considerable hope that there will be more tourists visiting the country this year, particularly during the warm summer months, who will require transportation from the mainland to various islands and between them.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, announced this week that the procurement procedure for six new ships for the Croatian ferry company Jadrolinija will be launched this year, one of which will be for the line connecting the extreme southern Dalmatian islands of Sipan, Lopud and Kolocep with the City of Dubrovnik.

The above line is very important for not only locals of the islands and of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area, but for tourism, as many people plan trips to these beautiful islands when visiting the so-called Pearl of the Adriatic.

"This year we plan to procure six new vessels, three passenger ships and three catamarans through the National Recovery Programme (NPOO), and the construction of these ships will begin in 2023. Dubrovnik can expect a new vessel," said Minister Oleg Butkovic regarding the procurement of the new Jadrolinija vessels for public transport in response to Dubrovnik Mayor Mate Frankovic (HDZ).

The Dubrovnik Mayor has otherwise warned of the dilapidation of the "Postira" vessel which currently runs connecting the City of Dubrovnik and the nearby Elafiti (Elaphite) islands on numerous occasions.

Until then, the good old "Postira" ship will be fully serviced in order to continue doing its job, or, in case that proves pointless, another used ship will be procured in order for the line to continue in its regular function, the minister added.

ZAGREB, 20 Jan 2022 - The national passenger shipping company Jadrolinija is marking its 75th anniversary on Thursday.

Upon its establishment on 20 January 1947, it had 41 vessels and in the following 75 years, it has operated 184.

Jadrolinija has been a leader in passenger transport in the Adriatic for more than 50 years, according to a press release, and this year it plans to invest in the development of the fleet, the digitalization of business and the development of services as well as signing strategic partnerships.

Jadrolinija currently has 54 vessels - ten catamarans, four-passenger ships, three international navigation, and 37 local navigation ferries.

These vessels operate on 37 local and two international lines connecting the Croatian and Italian coasts, with most lines operating year-round. The busiest lines during the summer season operate round the clock with nearly 600 departures a day.

Even during the past two pandemic years, Jadrolinija has demonstrated its ability to adapt and respond promptly, continuing to connect the mainland with the islands, the press release said.

Last year saw the beginning of recovery, with 85% of the turnover registered in the record year 2019 and a 40% increase from 2020.

Crew and passenger safety remains a priority, as confirmed by the national designation "Stay safe in Croatia" obtained last year, the company said, adding that it is designing new vessels that would include green technology in cooperation with the Kvarner Lürssen Design Centre.

Board president David Sopta said on the occasion of the 75th anniversary that Jadrolinija is "striving for excellence in every area - renewing the fleet with more modern vessels, investing in green technology, increasing business efficiency through digitalization and increasing passenger satisfaction by developing service quality."

January 8, 2022 - In a year of great tourism numbers across the country, where hotels, private accommodations, restaurants, and more in the industry benefited, ferries were no exception. Thus, the Croatian company is preparing for another successful year, as Jadrolinija presented its sailing schedule for 2022.

The first weeks of the year have served to look back on the positive results in the tourism sector in 2021. The state ferry company, Jadrolinija, can also boast of a successful year, as they transported 10.5 million passengers and 3.1 million vehicles, which is 85 percent of what was achieved in the record-breaking 2019 and 40 percent more than in 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic.

As we have entered 2022, HrTurizam.hr reports that Jadrolinija presented its sailing schedule for ferry lines in Croatia, as well as for international lines, such as lines connecting the Italian and Croatian coasts in 2022 through the lines Dubrovnik - Bari, and Split - Ancona.

December the 17th, 2021 - The state has provided the Croatian Jadrolinija ferry company with a very handsome cash injection of 52 million kuna in order to try to get its severely hit liquidity and profitability back up given that the company has also fallen victim to the pandemic.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Suzana Varosanec writes, another victim of the global coronavirus pandemic has been the liquidity and stable business of the Croatian Jadrolinija ferry company, which the government saved with a recently made decision. It intervened with approved state aid of a massive 52 million kuna for the maritime company's uncovered fixed costs.

This will prevent the majority of negative effects being felt by the population and the economy, the maritime and tourism industries will feel it indirectly, while the positive effects will indirectly spread to other industries, the decision claimed.

The money is provided by the revised state budget for 2021 and projections for 2022 and 2023, within the position of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, the programme of state aid to the maritime sector, transport, transport infrastructure in the coronavirus pandemic, and subsidies to public companies facing ongoing difficulties. The aforementioned ministry has reported state aid to the European Commission (EC) and will allegedly then need to prove the compatibility of state aid with the rules on it.

The fact that the Croatian Jadrolinija ferry company is proverbially ''burning'', which was the word used recently, is an indication of the need for the urgent implementation of measures, and it has been pointed out that state aid should be granted by the end of 2021 to address the needs of Jadrolinija, in terms of immediate liquidity that has emerged in recent months due to the pandemic, when normal market functioning was severely disrupted by this public health crisis.

According to Minister Oleg Butkovic, this has all resulted in the lack of funds for regular business and maintenance operations for this company.
