ZAGREB, February 1, 2018 - The project of the future Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk is being treated by the Croatian government as a strategic project at all its stages from start to end, according to a decision made by the Croatian government at its meeting on Thursday.
ZAGREB, January 30, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Tuesday that by building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia would assume a much more important role in the European energy policy, noting that talks were underway with the Hungarian side on the jointly-owned INA oil company and the recapitalisation of the Petrokemija artificial fertiliser producer.
ZAGREB, January 18, 2018 - US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Wess Mitchell said at talks with Croatian Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović in Washington on Wednesday that Croatia was crucial for the stability of Southeast Europe and set an example in terms of the rule of law and successful Euro-Atlantic integration.
Croatia is producing fewer energy products, although it has reserves enough for energy self-sufficiency, while new projects are hard to realise
The new terminal would improve energy security of Croatia and the region.
The public consultation period will end in late November.
The County would prefer for an LNG land terminal to be built on Krk island instead of a floating terminal.
The total of 27 bids have been received for the floating terminal and other facilities.
It does not seem likely that the terminal will open before 2020, if ever.
The floating LNG terminal should be constructed on the island of Krk.
