Minister’s Brother Nominated as Chair of Independent Agency

ZAGREB, April 26, 2018 - Lawmakers from two opposition parties – MOST and Social Democratic Party (SDP) – as well as deputies of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), which is a junior partner in the ruling coalition, on Wednesday said that, although the nominee for the new head of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) Tonko Obuljen was highly professional with the unquestionable references for that position, him being the brother of the current Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek raised some speculations that this appointment could amount to conflict of interest.

New Rules Coming for Film and Other Audiovisual Industries

ZAGREB, March 22, 2018 - The Croatian government on Thursday put forward to the parliament a bill on audiovisual activities that more precisely defines the model of selection and the scope of jurisdiction of members of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), including the Croatian Audiovisual Council that decides on the distribution of funds for the implementation of national programmes for promoting audio-visual creative work.

ZAGREB, March 19, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday that there was no nepotism in the process of appointing Tonko Obuljen, the brother of Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek, as the new head of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), explaining that Tonko Obuljen is in this line of business his entire professional life.
