July the 12th, 2021 - Former Mate Rimac engineer Tino Sturlic has mixed his obvious innovative nature with the desire to protect the environment, creating no less than a solar electric boat.

As Morski writes, Tino Sturlic from Zagreb is a former employee of Rimac Automobili and recently finished work on his boat, and the key modifications were the installation of solar panels and electric motors, writes rep.hr.

He bought the boat as a joint venture with his brother and sister two years ago, but he wasn't satisfied with the ''vibrations'' of the old Tomos 4 pente, so he immediately sent the boat to Zapresic, where he has a workshop. A lengthy restoration followed, followed by the design of the battery. The owner of Torp, who is also a former employee of Rimac Automobili, helped him out in his task.

He also installed a Battery Management System originally developed for an electric scooter that allows for the monitoring of battery status via mobile phone apps, as well as other data such as consumption and charging via solar panels.

The battery with a capacity of 110 Ah and a voltage of 48V can also be charged via a socket, but for shorter and occasional use of the boat it is enough to use tilting solar panels, which can be rotated laterally to make better use of solar energy depending on the sun's strength and position. In the strongest sunny conditions, they produce 500W of electricity per hour, while the boat at a speed of 3.2 knots per hour (5.9 km/h) consumes about 1kW. The range of the boat with a full battery at that speed is almost 16 nautical miles, and charging while driving increases this by up to 30 percent.

A necessary part of Tino Sturlic's system is the charging controller, which can be removed from the front of the ship together with the battery. It was developed by the Croatian company Infoton and then fully adapted to the aforementioned battery. In rare situations when the battery needs to be carried on the mains, it can be pulled out and taken away so that it doesn't have to bring electricity into the boat.

Unfortunately, the weakest link in the system was the old electric motor that was once used in Koncar's forklift and which still needs to be fitted with cooling to prevent overheating that occurs after an hour of sailing.

Tino Sturlic's unusual and impressive project worked for itself, but the interest and reactions of the public were positive, so it is possible that one day everything will result in a business project. The above example shows that the added value brought by innovative companies such as Rimac Automobili and the knowledge and experience gained by employees can one day see them start up their own new innovative companies. It's worth mentioning that Tino Sturlic was praised by his former employer, Mate Rimac, and he proudly pointed out that Tino, as well as some other former employees, had all started their own businesses, but not all of them have gone public yet.

July the 10th, 2021 - The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has paid a visit, accompanied by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, to the Rimac Automobili headquarters in Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb.

Mate Rimac's truly astonishing acheivement, one of many in reality but by far the most recent and most global, has attracted praise from across the world. Von der Leyen was eager to see what the fuss was all about at the Rimac Automobili headquarters, and it's safe to say she left the facility impressed.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Mate Rimac and his associates welcomed the EC President in front of the Rimac Automobili headquarters, and besides the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gordan Grlic Radman, Minister of Finance Zdravko Maric, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, Minister of Science and Education Radovan Fuchs and MEP Dubravka Suica, were all also present.

For anyone who has been living under a rock, Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac has taken over no less than Bugatti, and you can read more about that remarkable business move here.

The historical success of Rimac's innovative company, which operated out of a mere garage when it was first created back in 2009, has been no less than miraculous. It would be had it occurred almost anywhere in the world, but the fact that this happened on the back of a combination of grit and dreams and out of a Croatian garage is truly exceptional.

The merger of Rimac Automobil and Bugatti Automobiles has resulted in a joint venture of sorts, called Bugatti Rimac (in which the newly formed Rimac Group will have a majority stake), which will be directly controlled by the German Porsche with 58.2 percent ownership, while Mate Rimac will remain at the forefront, but with a minority stake of 20.4 percent.

Ursula von der Leyen will hopefully have gained another perspective of just what Croatia can produce when it puts its mind to it after visiting the Rimac Automobili headquarters.

July the 9th, 2021 - The incredible Mate Rimac Bugatti deal has blown the myths about not being able to succeed in Croatia straight out of the water. If he hadn't managed to convince you of that before, which is difficult to believe, he certainly has now. This remarkable Croatian entrepreneur's dogged determination is tireless, and Porsche has become even more deeply involved in the Rimac company.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Ana Blaskovic writes, drowning in the proverbial Croatian sea of ​​gloomy news about the failure of the vaccination rollout amid the pandemic and a new wave of mutated coronavirus posing a potential threat, the news that young entrepreneur Mate Rimac has taken over the cult figure of the automotive world, Bugatti, resounded like a nuclear bomb.

The historical success of the Rimac company, which operated out of a mere garage back in 2009, is astonishing. Very few people believed in the company's plans to create hypercars right here in Croatia, where cars are imported but not produced, but it turned out to be an astronomical success. The business side of the story, however, went under the radar.

The merger of Rimac Automobili and Bugatti Automobiles created a joint venture, known as Bugatti Rimac (in which the newly formed Rimac Group will hold a majority stake), which will be (in)directly controlled by Porsche with 58.2 percent ownership, while Mate Rimac will remain at the forefront, but with a minority stake of 20.4 percent.

The transaction isn't accompanied by cash flow as such but is a matter of exchanging shares, which reflects the consequent rearrangement of the structure of the Rimac company. With this move, Rimac's startup actually ceases to be a startup and is being additionally integrated within the umbrella of the VW Group, of which Porsche is of course a part. Rimac Automobili is becoming the Rimac Group (divided into Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Technology) in which Mate Rimac formally holds the largest single stake of 37 percent, Porsche 24 percent, Hyundai 12 percent and other shareholders 27 percent.

The Rimac Group will have a 55 percent stake in the Bugatti Rimac package, which includes the separate brands Bugatti Automobiles and Rimac Automobili. The remaining 45 percent of the shares of the joint venture are held by the German manufacturer, which has been following the Rimac company financially for the last three years.

Despite these figures, which lean significantly in the favour of the German investor, it has been agreed that Mate Rimac will remain at the helm, as the CEO of the Rimac Group he will lead the business of Bugatti Rimac and the new company Rimac Technology. It's here that the core business that broke through in the automotive industry remains - the development, production and delivery of battery systems, powertrains and other EV components. All of the above will be 100 percent owned by the Rimac company.

“What's important to note is that the Rimac Group is managed by director Mate Rimac. The owners participate in the management of the company through the Supervisory Board,'' stated an explanation regarding German shares. They added that “Rimac Group is the largest shareholder of Bugatti Rimac d.o.o. where Mate Rimac is also the director. Mate is also the director of Rimac Technology, which is 100 percent owned by the Rimac Group.''

Car buffs who follow such news aren't too surprised by this outcome, although it is almost certain that there was resistance to such a solution. The new Rimac company remains under the control of a young businessman who, despite all the objective obstacles to doing business in Croatia, raised the company from scratch in an industry that is markedly capital intensive. Only twelve years has passed from the aforementioned garage adventures to the presentation of the stunning Nevera, the fastest electric hypercar in the entire world. 

The fact that all of the above was done at all is exceptional, but knowing it has been done by a Croat, in Croatia, is bordering on miraculous.

ZAGREB, 8 July 2021 - The owner of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, said on Thursday that his company is developing a project for autonomous vehicles, robotaxis, and that the first ones if the project is a success, could be tested in Zagreb streets in 2024 already.

He underscored that at the start of next year he would present the robotaxi, a driverless vehicle, to the public. He added that the Nevera model is now completing homologizing and testing and that soon it will be put into serial production. The robotaxi project should be much larger than Rimac Automobili.

"This is something with big potential. A robotaxi prototype has been made, our guests saw it today, however, we have to bring it to a higher level and present it as it should be, probably at the start of next year. The idea is that in 2024 we launch that autonomous vehicle on Zagreb's streets. If we don't succeed with that project, all the money that we invested and will invest will fall through, and that's hundreds of millions. Our objective is to do that by 2024, together with all the necessary infrastructure," said Rimac.

Rimac reiterated that his company has still not succeeded, that success is yet to come, but said that it is going towards that with 1,000 employees and more than €200 million in investment attracted and many more investment to come.

"And that is an investment in development, employment, and production in Croatia that is exported to the entire world. It was a big thing for us to take over Bugatti, a company that has been in business for more than 110 years. That is a big responsibility. For the first time in history, VW has divested a brand from its portfolio," underscored Rimac, adding that VW is the biggest company in Europe with annual revenue of €250 billion.

Bugatti is a successful company but Rimac Automobili wants to make it even more successful, he said.

"It's not true that Bugatti is a hot potato. They are successful. In the past three years, they have been profitable. They sell 90 vehicles a year and have a revenue of about €300 million," he underscored and added that the VW Group agreed to the transaction because it believes that Rimac Automobili has the technology and right approach for something like that.

In that regard, he explained how Porsche had brought its Panamera prototype to Rimac Automobili and said that it had three months to show how the vehicle can be improved. "Within the same battery dimensions and same mass, we created a vehicle that has twice the range and twice the battery capacity," said Rimac.

July the 8th, 2021 - The amazing Mate Rimac Bugatti deal which has dominated the Croatian media space since its announcement has earned showers of praise from across the world as this remarkable Croatian entrepreneur continues to make automotive history.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the incredible news of the Mate Rimac Bugatti deal has reached the eyes and eyes of the world's media and attracted even more recognition for this Livno-born entrepreneur who is schooling the government in how investments are attracted, following a huge cash injection from no less than Porsche.

CNN states that the Volkswagen Group and Porsche have agreed to create a new company that merges Rimac Automobili, a Croatian company based in Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb that produces electric supercars, with the famous Bugatti.

The CNN article states that Rimac has so far specialised in developing technology for electric cars, including batteries. According to CNN, companies such as Jaguar, Aston Martin and the Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg are among Rimac's well known clients. The publication also cites Rimc's collaboration with the Italian Pininfarina, a company that was once known for designing for Ferrari.

The Financial Times describes the Mate Rimac Bugatti deal as "a deal that cements Rimac's position as an established force in the automotive industry," Index reports.

The fact that Bugatti will be controlled by an electric car specialist is a big step forward for Bugatti, a company known for its loud hypercars and 16-cylinder engines. The fact that the takeover is by someone from Croatia is astonishing to most, as the country is far from known for even dipping its feet into the car world, at least until Mate Rimac put it on the map.

Advances in battery technology have led to speeds beyond the reach of even the most advanced vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, according to the Financial Times, following the example of Rimac's amazing Nevera, which should be the fastest production car ever produced.

According to the Financial Times, Rimac said that by the end of the decade, Bugatti will produce a fully electric car, but until then it will focus on hybrid models.

July 5, 2021 - Mate Rimac's company Rimac Automobili has become the majority owner of Bugatti, and Rimac Automobili becomes Rimac Group divided into two companies - Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Technology.

This was announced this afternoon by Rimac Automobili. This confirmed the speculations that Rimac would take over Bugatti, a famous company known for super-luxury cars, reports Index.hr.

Mate Rimac accompanied the announcement of this news on Facebook with a photo showing Nevera, Bugatti, and Porsche on the runway.

More information about this great event will be announced tonight in Dubrovnik. In addition, speeches by Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche, and Lutz Meschke, vice president and chief financial officer of Porsche, have been announced.

Rimac Automobili says it is at a "turning point in the company's history," and the move, which became public today, is described as "merging with the icon of car brands, Bugatti Automobiles, into a new automotive and technology company."

In just 10 years, Rimac Automobili has progressed from a startup and one man in a garage to create a new company Bugatti Rimac d.o.o., in collaboration with two of the most famous and powerful car brands in the world - Porsche and Volkswagen Group, the statement said.

This Croatian brand has proven that it can keep up and open new vistas, imposing performance and technology standards on others. Combining Rimac's technical knowledge and efficient business with 110 years of design tradition and a strong Bugatti brand is leading to the emergence of the most important company in the hypercar market, Rimac Automobili announced.

Rimac Group will be the largest shareholder of the new company Bugatti Rimac d.o.o., with a share of 55%. Mate Rimac will retain its existing stake in the Rimac Group of 37%, Porsche remains at 24%, Hyundai Motor Group at 12%, and other investors at 27%. The development, production, and delivery of battery systems, powertrains, and other EV components, for which Rimac is known and gained the trust of many car manufacturers, will be separated into a new business entity - Rimac Technology - which the Rimac Group will wholly own. Rimac Technology remains an independent company that cooperates with many global car manufacturers, according to Rimac Automobil, from which they also sent an infographic of the new ownership structure.

Mate Rimac will head the new company. As CEO of the Rimac Group, he will lead Bugatti Rimac and the new company Rimac Technology. With this, Mate Rimac continues to manage all business segments of the Rimac Group, which now includes Bugatti. Bugatti and Rimac continue as separate brands, retaining existing production facilities and distribution channels, while the headquarters and all development for both brands will be in Croatia.

The Rimac Group will continue to innovate, create its own hypercars and develop systems and technologies for many of the world's car manufacturers. Such innovative technology will be applied in future Bugatti models, Rimac Automobil said in a statement.

Both brands, Rimac Automobili and Bugatti, will continue to develop car models within the new company. In the future, Bugatti Rimac's global headquarters will be located at the new Rimac campus, which will also be the headquarters of Rimac Technology, as well as the production of technology and components for cars of both brands, while the assembly of the Bugatti model will continue in Molsheim, France, thus continuing to use the historical location, which is inseparable from the Bugatti brand. The 200m-euro campus, with a building area of 100,000 m2, which should open in 2023, will be the base for all research and development of future Rimac and Bugatti hypercars. Conceived as the core of high-tech innovation, the Rimac campus will bring together 2,500 people driven by shared curiosity and a desire to reach extremes, the statement said.

July 5, 2021 - A new Rimac Automobili milestone will be announced tonight at 8 pm, just one month after the Nevera was revealed. 

Rimac Automobili has announced on Facebook that it will present the next "milestone in the company's history" tonight, reports Index.hr.

They invited people to join the live presentation of their new venture on Monday at 8 pm Croatian time.

"What's next? Here at Rimac, we never rest.
Following the recent launch of the #Nevera, we are announcing the next major milestone in our company's history. Join us in this celebration and watch the live stream on July 5th at 8pm CEST / 11am PDT," Rimac Automobil wrote on Facebook, and Mate Rimac also shared the post on his profile.

They also shared a link where you can follow the presentation. 

It’s hard to even guess what this could be about after Mate Rimac recently, after a long wait, introduced the sensational Nevera that pushed all boundaries.  

This second-generation hypercar is limited to 150 units, and deliveries of Nevera to customers will start this year.

The price of the car is two million euros, and in recent weeks the review has appeared in almost every auto-moto magazine and portal.

"The Nevera is the most powerful production car ever produced, with 1900 horsepower, under 2 seconds from 0 to 100, under 9 seconds per quarter-mile, making it the fastest accelerating car ever on the road. It is an indicator of what we can think of in technology and work for other manufacturers such as Porsche or Hyundai who are our investors. Of course, we want to build a strong business in the production of sports cars," said Mate Rimac.

Mate Rimac announced the big news three weeks ago, which he will finally announce tonight. It was during a speech at the Auto @ 2030 Adria convention of the automotive industry, organized by the Swiss School of Business and Management (SSBM).

He said that he was sorry that on the ten-year path of development he no longer ignored the competition, that is, that he analyzed it too much, instead of working on his own. He stressed that the car industry is facing huge changes - in his opinion, in the near future, there will most likely no longer be car owners, vehicles will be autonomous and will not use only three percent of available time as now, but more than 90 percent.

"Cities will change, real estate prices, there will be fewer police on the roads," Rimac said, adding that there are still many unknowns in the whole story. The question, he said, is whether some new kids will even take the driving test, whether they will have the time and will to service the vehicles.

He also announced that Rimac Automobili will soon start with the serial production of components for vehicles.

In recent weeks, there has been speculation about Rimac going public, but also about taking over Bugatti. German Manager Magazine wrote, and Reuters reported the news, that Rimac Automobili will go public in 2022 with a company value of five billion euros.

"We are considering different possibilities, but it has not been decided in which direction we will go," Rimac Automobili said for Index. 

Recall, the contract to take over Bugatti is likely to be announced over the summer and will transfer this brand from VW to Porsche. Car and Driver also recently announced that Rimac and Porsche would then launch a joint venture with Rimac, in which Rimac would be the majority shareholder.

"Getting a Bugatti at the age of 33 would be impressive enough. But this year, Volkswagen is expected to leave the Bugatti brand, or at least a major part of it, to 33-year-old Mate Rimac because he can better design the electric powertrains that Bugatti will need in the electrified era," Car and Driver wrote recently about Rimac.

Spiegel also wrote about Rimac taking over Bugatti.

"As a supplier, Rimac has caused a sensation in the automotive industry due to deals with Hyundai and the VW Group, and the company is also supplying components for Koenigsegg and Aston Martin. Porsche has just increased its stake in the company from 15 to 24 percent. It is said that Rimac will soon take over Bugatti and make the most exclusive VW brand capable of the future with an extreme electric car," the renowned German newspaper Spiegel said about Rimac's business successes.

Under Rimac's leadership, Bugatti could produce an electric super sports car with a luxurious ambiance, the media wrote.

June the 18th, 2021 - Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac went from being an unknown individual with a dream to the most talked about Croatian entrepreneur of the modern day in the world. Having proven that you can succeed and even do so beyond your wildest dreams here in Croatia, he claims that his only mistake was paying too much attention to what others were doing.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes, Rimac Automobili has raised a massive 250 million euros in capital so far, and although they are now considering new options, no decisions have been made yet, said Mate Rimac when discussing a recent announcement from the German media that Rimac Automobili is going public and that their estimated value is raised capital of about five billion euros.

Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac was a guest at the recently held regional Adria conference Auto2030 organised by the Swiss School of Business and Management Geneva (SSBM), which was held in a hybrid form from Zagreb with online presence from the capital cities of neighbouring countries - Ljubljana, Sarajevo and Belgrade.

Mate Rimac said that after 10 years of his company's existence, he came very close to the goal he set a long time ago - to have a plant from which one car will be able to be made daily, and at the same time that trucks and wagons of batteries, components and parts will go out to customers from there every day.

"One thing I blame myself for now is that I paid too much attention to what others were doing and talking about and then adjusted myself and my plans to that. The Concept_One was a dead end and the Nevera project is just what makes sense now and what we should have started working on right away,'' said Rimac.

Talented entrepreneur Mate Rimac sees the future of motoring through autonomous vehicles, with ownership being different because customers will "buy" kilometres, and not the vehicles themselves, which will be continually owned by their operators. He expects that existing car manufacturers will continue to be serious players, but no longer the biggest and most important ones.

"Today we have a situation where most people live and work in bigger cities, in the future, people's places of residence will be completely irrelevant, which will then affect many other things - 60 percent of the police today are related to work involving traffic control, airports generate a significant share of income from parking, there is a large network of car distributors who sell and maintain cars today, and who knows what that will all be like in the future and who some new players will end up being,'' said Rimac.

June the 10th, 2021 - The German media has been no stranger to the entire Rimac story, with numerous articles praising the Croatian Mate Rimac, being referred to as the ''Elon Musk of the Balkans'' and compared to genius and countryman Nikola Tesla. That trend hasn't stopped and the showers of praise from Germany continue for this remarkable entrepreneur from Livno.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the popular German publication Der Spiegel has featured the brand new car made by Croatian Mate Rimac, as reported by Index. The beautiful new Nevera is described by the publication as "superior", and Rimac has been referred to as a person who is "introducing new standards" to the electric car industry.

“The 2000 hp Rimac Nevera sports car demonstrates the superiority of electric drive on the racetrack,” Der Spiegel points out in an article entitled ''Bugatti was yesterday. Now comes Rimac's Nevera.''

The German paper also states that Croatian Mate Rimac's truly stunning Nevera represents "the current peak of a brilliant career", during which Rimac, in ten years from being "completely unknown" became an advisor to some of the most famous managers in the automotive industry, even advising the bosses of Volkswagen and Porsche on switching to electric cars.

However, Der Spiegel critically states that "Nevera plays on the lowest instincts", reports Index.

"We wanted to show off what is technically possible. And, of course, have a little fun,'' Rimac told Der Spiegel, who recalls that he started his career as a race driver. "Infidelity is not a contribution to mass mobility, but it's a fun activity for a few," explains Rimac.

Despite appealing to speed lovers and perhaps ''the lowest human instincts'', Nevera should also demonstrate "what Rimac Automobili can produce". According to the Index, Der Spiegel believes that Rimac's "technology can make ordinary vehicles faster, more economical, or safer".

June the 4th, 2021 - Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac recently unveiled the gorgeous Nevera, and it turns out that no two Rimac Nevera supercars will be the same, giving this remarkable vehicle even more of a special touch.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Mladen Milicic/VL writes, three years after the premiere of the C_Two prototype with which the Croatian technology company Rimac Automobili impressed the entire world, this Sveta Nedelja-based company recently presented a serial version of the most powerful and fastest electric car in the world, which was given a very resounding name - Nevera.

The Rimac Nevera supercars carry with them a proud Croatian name that truly reflects their utterly incredible performance - 1914 horsepower, acceleration from 0-60 mph in 1.85 seconds, up to 300 km/h in just 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 412 km/h. This is precisely why this impressive Croatian supercar is named after a quicj, unexpected and powerful Mediterranean storm.

''That's it. This is the car I dreamed of when I embarked on this ''impossible'' journey a decade ago. All of our hard work has resulted in Nevera - our record-breaking hypercar. This car was created to surpass everything and to raise the bar, to raise the standards for high performance cars. Not only in terms of performance, but also as a rounded, balanced road car. When we first introduced the C_Two we set soe extremely high goals. But from the beginning, we were looking for ways to surpass them,'' stated Mate Rimac, the founder and executive director of Rimac Automobili.

A technological flagship

He founded the company at the age of 21 back in 2009 with the aim of producing the fastest e-car in the world. Even back then, Rimac chose an excellent niche, the development of e-vehicles, which has now become the main development path for all manufacturers due to ecology issues.

Today, Rimac Automobili and its subsidiaries employ about 1,000 people, and a 200,000-square-metre campus project was recently presented in Kerestinec near Zagreb, which should be built in 2023 with an investment of 200 million euros and a plan to employ another 1,500 people.

Sophisticated e-car technology is sold to the world's most renowned car companies, and the likes of Porsche and Hyundai have invested hundreds of millions of kuna in the company. The last major investment came in March 2021 when the German giant Porsche invested another 70 million euros in Rimac's company and increased its stake from 15.5 to 24 percent.

"We'll produce only 150 Rimac Nevera supercars, with each car produced here in Croatia, motivated by the passion of the entire team for cars," said Rimac. The prominent price for the Nevera is two million euros.

E-motor efficiency: 97 percent

The key to Nevera's outstanding performance is in Rimac's unique electric drive. Each component of the electric powertrain has been developed to achieve higher torque, better performance and increased efficiency.

The unique, liquid-cooled H-shaped battery with 6960 cells, with a capacity of 120 kWh, was designed by the Rimac team from scratch and placed in the very heart of the Rimac Nevera supercars.

Four separate motors with permanent magnets individually drive each of the wheels. Together they deliver 1914 hp and 2360 Nm of torque, which is more than any supercar with a “conventional engine” currently available on the market. The front and rear wheels are connected to the engines via a single-speed transmission.

Designed to achieve maximum torque immediately, Nevera electric motors achieve an efficiency of 97 percent - compared to 40 percent seen in the most efficient internal combustion engines - and no maintenance is needed throughout their service life.

With space for two passengers and luggage (100 l boot/trunk capacity), the Nevera is a car made for regular use. There are three high-resolution TFT screens in the cockpit, and the driver chooses how much information they want to see.

Rimac's factory won't produce two Nevera cars the same, as customers can choose from a wide range of custom designs and materials themselves.

In addition to a state-of-the-art personalisation programme, Rimac Automobili will offer its main model in GT, Signature, Timeless or Bespoke custom models. As part of the user journey, every Nevera owner will be invited here to Croatia to design their car to their liking.
