March 30, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Croatia Airlines and Ryanair offer over 2 million seats in the Zagreb Airport summer flight schedule this year.

Croatian Aviation reports the details of this year's summer flight schedule from Zagreb, the exact number of available seats on all routes (ad-hoc charter and scheduled flights) of the two airlines that offer the largest number of seats and generate the most passengers at Zagreb International Airport.

Namely, Croatian Aviation has listed all the operations of Croatia Airlines and Ryanair on the day announced for this year's summer flight schedule (from March 27 to October 29 this year). 

Croatia Airlines operates on a number of international and domestic routes in this year's summer flight schedule, which Croatian Aviation will analyze in detail by month.

In the mentioned period, the Croatian national airline is planning 559 return flights with A320 aircraft, 1866 return flights with A319 aircraft, and 3139 return flights with DashQ400 aircraft. A total of 1,209,068 seats are currently available from or to Zagreb on all Croatia Airlines flights. 

Ryanair is announcing a slightly smaller number of flights. In the same period, 2219 return flights with A320 aircraft, 104 return flights with B737-800 aircraft, and 51 return flights with 737 MAX 200 aircraft are planned. A total of 858,552 seats are currently available from or to Zagreb on all flights Ryanair.

Croatia Airlines is currently the largest airline at Zagreb Airport in terms of the number of seats, offering 350,516 more seats than the other Ryanair during the mentioned period.

According to current announcements, these two airlines have a total of 2,067,620 seats from and to Zagreb Airport, respectively.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Finnair has announced a regular seasonal route between Helsinki and Zagreb which will operate from May to the end of September this year.

After Finnair announced that it would not resume traffic to Ljubljana this summer, due to the negative impact of the war in Ukraine on air traffic in that part of Europe, there were fears that Finnair would cancel the announced route to Zagreb, too. 

However, Croatian Aviation learned that this will not happen. Finnair plans to operate the first flight between Helsinki and Zagreb on May 1 this year, and by the end of September (September 29) to operate a total of 66 return flights between the two cities.

Finnair will operate on this route three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and for now, only A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 passengers have been announced. Earlier, Embraer E190 aircraft were also planned for these flights. 

This summer, Finnair will offer a total of 19,008 seats between Helsinki and Zagreb, and will also operate to Dubrovnik and Split.

Finnair will operate to Dubrovnik from April 1, and to Split from April 20 this year.

March 29, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as 50,000 seats on the Zagreb-Barcelona route are on sale this summer thanks to Vueling and Croatia Airlines. 

Spanish low-cost airline Vueling will introduce a regular seasonal route between Zagreb and Barcelona on April 2, 2022. At the end of April, Croatia Airlines will renew the same line, reports Croatian Aviation. 

Namely, as of this Saturday, Vueling is re-introducing its regular seasonal line between Barcelona and Zagreb. The line returns after the winter break, and the last flight Vueling made on this line was on October 16 last year.

Vueling will gradually increase the number of weekly operations in April, and from May it will operate three times a week between Zagreb and Barcelona, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This should be the case until September 10, when the number of weekly rotations will be reduced to two, until the end of the summer flight schedule on October 29.

Vueling is planning 90 return flights on this route from April to October, offering exactly 32,400 seats per season on its A320 aircraft.

As of Thursday, April 28, the Croatian national airline, Croatia Airlines, is renewing the same route after two summer seasons. Flights are also planned until the end of the season, or the end of October.

Croatia Airlines will use A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 seats on this route, and three flights a week have also been announced, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

On 79 return flights planned for this summer season, the Croatian airline offers a total of 22,752 seats between Barcelona and Zagreb. 

In total, Vueling and Croatia Airlines planes will operate six times a week and offer 55,152 seats between the two mentioned cities from April to October this year.

From March 24, Dubrovnik will be connected to Barcelona by a regular Vueling line, which will operate daily from May, and from April 1, this airline will resume traffic to Split. Between Barcelona and Split, 6 flights a week have been announced until mid-June, and then it will run daily. Other Croatian airports (Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, and Brač) do not have scheduled flights to the capital of Catalonia in this year's summer flight schedule.

March 28, 2022 - The latest news on flights to Croatia as the return of Seoul-Zagreb flights this summer seems increasingly unlikely. 

After Zagreb Airport published its summer flight schedule, there was a discussion about the available flights between Zagreb and Seoul, a line that was canceled in November 2019, reports Croatian Aviation.

The airline's summer flight schedule is available on the official website of Zagreb International Airport. Among others, the announcements of two Korean airlines, T'way and Korean Air to Zagreb, stand out. But will those flights really happen?

Namely, the Korean MOLIT issued a license to T'way Air to operate up to four flights a week to Zagreb, so Korean Air temporarily lost that right. If they wish, there is no doubt that this airline will also receive the necessary permits from the competent authorities.

Because part of the Croatian Aviation editorial board previously worked for this airline, they are continuously receiving information about the possible return of Korean Air to Zagreb. The original plan was to launch the line with the start of the summer flight schedule. However, it was decided to postpone the start to May 3, and due to the impact of the pandemic in that Asian country, bookings are far weaker than expected, and the new delay resulted in moving the first flight to July 2.

In addition, due to the war in Ukraine, the airline does not expect that the demand for European travel will grow significantly. Hence, the announced return of Korean Air to Zagreb may be canceled. Tickets have been on sale for ten days for flights from July 2, but in case of cancellation, the airline will redirect passengers to Air France flights to Paris and then to the Korean Air flight to Seoul.

The low-cost T'way has already announced its arrival in Zagreb several times, and they have finally taken over their first wide-body aircraft, type A330-300. This line has been planned for June 1 this year, the tickets are not yet on sale, and it seems that there will be several operational changes here as well.

Croatian Aviation also received an official response from Korean Air: "At this point, we do not have a confirmed plan to resume our regular flight between ICN and ZAG. To consider resuming our suspended routes, we closely monitor changes in regional demand, quarantine and entry policies, and other external factors, and Zagreb is just one of them."

T'way plans flights between Zagreb and Seoul on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, while Korean Air plans operations like before the pandemic - Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Will both carriers operate in this year's summer flight schedule? Croatian Aviation believes they could be overly optimistic. 

If yes, there would be 165 return flights from two airlines (with T'way running nine more flights than Korean Air), and this low-cost airline would also offer more seats. Namely, the B787-9 Korean Air has a capacity of 269 seats, while the A330-300 T'way Airlines has a capacity of 347 seats. In total, according to the announcements of Zagreb Airport, these two airlines should offer 102,342 seats between Seoul and Zagreb, which seems too much for current demand.

March 23, 2022 - The latest on flights to Croatia as the British Airways Zagreb line is boosted for the summer, and Air France adds two daily flights to Zagreb in the peak summer season. 

With the start of the summer flight schedule, British Airways is increasing the number of rotations on the regular line between London and Zagreb, reports Croatian Aviation. 

British Airways has renewed its route to Zagreb with a relatively modest number of weekly operations. Still, with the start of the summer flight schedule, there will be a positive shift in increasing the number of weekly operations between London and Zagreb.

The number of weekly rotations will gradually increase, with five flights announced this week and 8 return flights available next week.

From April 4 to 10, British Airways will operate between the two airports 10 times a week, daily, with two daily flights available on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The number of operations will continue to increase. As of mid-April, 13 rotations per week are currently announced, the number corresponding to the British Airways winter flight schedule in 2019, before the pandemic. Two flights a day are planned, every day of the week except Saturday.

There are 49 British Airways return flights in April between the two cities. A320 aircraft with 180 seats have been announced for the flights, offering more than 17,500 seats in one month.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that French national airline Air France, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, has revised its summer flight schedule and offers two daily flights to Zagreb in the peak summer season. 

Although Air France announced a second daily flight between Paris and Zagreb before the pandemic, the plan did not materialize due to a sharp drop in demand and lockdown across Europe. Thus, instead of this airline, the second daily flight was introduced by partner KLM, and now the same is announced by Air France.

Namely, from the beginning of the summer flight schedule, Air France will continue to operate daily between Paris and Zagreb, and in the peak summer season, from July 9, the second daily flight was announced.

Namely, two daily flights are currently announced in July, except on Wednesdays when Air France will have one daily flight, while in August, two daily flights are available for booking every day of the week.

In addition, Croatia Airlines continues to operate between Paris and Zagreb, so a total of three daily flights will be available between these two airports during the peak summer season, or 21 flights a week!

March 21, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as the Ryanair Zadar summer flight schedule is delayed, and several changes have been announced from Zagreb.

Ryanair has changed the summer flight schedule for its two bases in Croatia, reports Croatian Aviation.

The start of traffic on several lines from Zadar has been postponed to June. As for Zagreb's Ryanair base, several routes have received an additional weekly flight, and several lines will operate with a reduced number of flights.

Namely, lines from Zagreb to Brussels Charleroi, Milan Bergamo, Malta, Memmingen, Malmö, Paphos, Rome Fiumicino, and Düsseldorf Weeze have been strengthened with an additional weekly rotation. Also, the number of flights on the new route to Bratislava has been increased from the original two to three flights a week. 

On the other hand, Ryanair will reduce the frequency of flights to Dublin to three-weekly flights, and from the planned initially two-weekly flights to one weekly flight to Corfu.

The summer flight schedule was also revised from the Zadar base. Namely, the starting date for several flights has been postponed.

ZAGREB, 15 March 2022 - NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday the indications available so far were that a drone which crashed in Zagreb last Thursday was unarmed and that it was not an armed attack.

Asked about the incident, Stoltenberg said at a press conference that the preliminary information available so far indicated it was not an intentional attack, but that such cases were also dangerous, so NATO increased surveillance.

A Soviet-made unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in a residential area in Zagreb shortly after 11 pm last Thursday, having entered Croatia's airspace from Hungary and Hungary's from Romania.

Stoltenberg recalled that he discussed the incident with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Sunday.

The alliance's secretary-general said the investigation was still under way and the facts were being established, but the indications so far were that the drone did not carry a bomb nor explosive but was a reconnaissance drone.

The drone ran out of fuel and crashed in Zagreb, he added.

Stoltenberg also said that Croatia, Hungary and Romania were yet to exchange all information on this incident and cooperate more closely.

March 15, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Austrian Airlines Croatia flights will operate 23 times per week from the beginning of the summer flight schedule. 

Austrian national airline and Lufthansa Group member Austrian Airlines will renew seasonal routes from Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik from the end of March, and to Zadar in early April. There will also be an increase in the number of weekly operations at Zagreb International Airport, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Austrian Airlines is reintroducing seasonal routes from its main hub in Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik at the beginning of the summer flight schedule, which begins on March 27 this year. In the first days of April, traffic will resume between Vienna and Zadar Airport.

The first flight between Vienna and Split has been announced for Sunday, March 27. At the beginning of the summer flight schedule, Austrian will operate between the two cities 6 times a week, every day except Tuesdays. Already in the second half of April, there will be an increase in the number of flights on a daily basis.

In the first seven rotations to Split, Embraer 195 aircraft will operate, as well as the largest aircraft from the A320 family, the A321. Currently, there are 2,000 seats in that period.

There will be a similar flight schedule at the beginning of the season to Dubrovnik Airport. Five flights a week have been announced, starting on March 27, every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays, but there will also be an increase in the number of rotations by the Easter holiday.

1,872 seats are available on the first 7 flights between Dubrovnik and Vienna, and A320 and E195 aircraft will operate on the route.

Austrian will introduce a line to Zadar a little later than Split and Dubrovnik. The first flight has been announced for Saturday, April 9, and three flights a week have been announced at the start of the season, every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Prior to the pandemic, the Austrian airline operated twice a day to Zagreb, but this route has not yet returned to its 2019 capacity. Apparently, this will not happen at the beginning of this summer season either, although there will be an increase in weekly rotations.

Namely, from Sunday, March 27, Austrian will operate between Vienna and Zagreb eight times a week, every day except Wednesday, with two flights a day announced on Fridays and Sundays.

From Sunday, March 27, to Sunday, March 3, Austrian will offer 2,160 seats to and from Zagreb. Namely, as the airline retired all DashQ400 aircraft in June last year, Embraer 195 aircraft with a capacity of 120 seats will fly to Zagreb, so the previously mentioned smaller number of flights was compensated by increasing capacity or changing the type of aircraft on the route.

March the 13th, 2022 - The concessionaire of Zagreb International Airport (Dr. Franjo Tudjman Airport) has introduced a total ban on taking videos and/or photos at the Croatian border itself.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the concessionaire of Zagreb International Airport, MZLZ d.d., confirmed the above for avioradar, which covers all things related to aviation in not only the Republic of Croatia but the entire wider region.

"Regarding your request [for this information], we are able to inform you that through its internal channels and to all of the necessary addresses, on Tuesday, March the 8th, 2022, Zagreb International Airport forwarded a notice prohibiting photography and filming in the border area transition at the request of the Airport Police Station.

The notice states that pursuant to Article 21 of the Ordinance on State Border Surveillance (Official Gazette/Narodne Novine, Nos. 30/14, 43/14 and 72/17) and the request of the Pleso Airport Police Station, unauthorised photography and filming is not permitted.

At this point, we can add that the authorities will define in the coming time what conditions are needed, in order to approve possible individual requests for photography and filming [at the border crossing itself at Zagreb International Airport].''

It's worth noting that despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, traffic for the Croatian capital coming in via Zagreb International Airport has recovered in a very encouraging way, and with coronavirus restrictions likely to be even further loosened up by the Croatian authorities in the coming days, a decent summer could be upon us.

March 3, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Ryanair cancels its Zagreb-Lviv line, and Volotea announces a new line to Split this summer, connecting Lille and Split!

The new Ryanair line between Lviv and Zagreb is no longer on sale. As expected, Ryanair has suspended sales on flights to and from Ukraine due to Russia's invasion, reports Croatian Aviation. 

Ryanair announced the line between Lviv and Zagreb in mid-January this year and has plans to operate on it from the very beginning of the summer flight schedule - on March 27. Fights were planned twice a week, every Wednesday and Sunday.

The Irish airline closed sales on all routes from Lviv, including the announced route to Zagreb. A total of 22,320 seats were on sale, and Lviv was to be the second city in Ukraine with which Zagreb was to have a direct connection. 

Ryanair has announced its return to Ukrainian airports as soon as security conditions allow.

Furthermore, Spanish low-cost airline Volotea has announced another new route to Split Airport this summer, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Volotea, which has its bases not only in Spain, but also in France, Greece, and Italy, is introducing another new route to Split Airport this summer, regularly connecting Split and Lille, a city in northern France with more than 220,000 inhabitants.

The first flight on the new line has been announced for May 8, and flights will run every Sunday until October 9 this year.

A319 aircraft with a capacity of 156 passengers have been announced on the route, so Volotea will offer a total of 7,176 seats between the two cities this summer.

This is also the seventh destination of the Spanish airline from France to Split Airport. Tickets for flights from Split to Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, and Toulouse are also on sale.

March 2, 2022 - The latest news on flights to Croatia as the LOT Croatia summer flight schedule is announced from Warsaw, and Iberia Dubrovnik and Zagreb flights resume from Madrid at the end of the month. 

Polish national airline LOT Polish Airlines is announcing over 20 weekly flights between Warsaw and Croatian airports in the upcoming summer flight schedule, reports Croatian Aviation. 

LOT Polish Airlines has confirmed flights from Warsaw to Zagreb, Split, Zadar, and Dubrovnik in the upcoming summer flight schedule. Although LOT also operated regularly to Rijeka last summer, tickets are currently not on sale, but it is expected that LOT will fly to Rijeka Airport this summer as well.

11 flights a week to Zagreb:

from April 30 - 5 flights a week (afternoon),

from May 2 - 5 flights a week (in the morning).

from July 5, the number of afternoon rotations increases from 5 to 6, a total of 11 flights per week.

6 flights a week to Dubrovnik:

from March 27 - flights will be introduced on Saturdays and Sundays,

from March 30 - flights will be introduced on Wednesdays and Fridays,

from April 18 - flights will be introduced on Mondays,

from May 5, flights are introduced on Thursdays, a total of 6 flights per week.

3 flights a week to Split:

from June 1 - flights will be introduced on Mondays and Wednesdays,

from June 5 - a flight is introduced on Sundays, a total of 3 flights a week.

1 flight per week to Zadar:

from April 30 - a flight is introduced on Saturdays.

In the coming weeks, sales are expected to open between Warsaw and Rijeka, which was in traffic once a week last year. LOT will use aircraft from the Embraer fleet on the routes to Croatia, as well as those from the Boeing family, just like in previous years. 

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that at the end of this month, the national carrier of Spain, Iberia Airlines, will resume traffic on regular routes to Croatian airports.

Namely, Iberia will reintroduce regular flights to Dubrovnik and Zagreb, while Madrid and Split will be connected again only from June.

Iberia will operate between Zagreb and Madrid again from March 27, twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays. From May 1, a flight will be introduced on Thursdays, and only from August 1, daily flights on this line will be announced.

Compared to last year, this is a much earlier resumption of traffic on this line. In the 2021 summer flight schedule, Iberia made its first flight between Zagreb and Madrid only on June 4.

Two flights a week have been announced between Dubrovnik and Madrid, and the first flight is also announced for March 27. A few more flights have been announced in April, especially around Easter, mostly three to four flights a week, and from April 29 the airline will operate between the two cities on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Dubrovnik is traditionally the most important destination of Iberia in Croatia, so daily flights from Madrid will be available from June 1. Two flights a day should be operating from August 1.

The Madrid-Split line has been announced from June 1, three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. From July 2, a flight is added on Saturdays, and from August 1, daily flights are announced.

The route to Zadar has been withdrawn from sale for this summer season as well, and aircraft from the A320 family have been announced on routes to Croatia. In the peak summer season, Iberia announces up to 28 weekly flights, offering more than 10,000 seats between Madrid, Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb.
