In Split and Want to Go Skiing? Here are the Top Ski Resorts Just a Short Ride Away

When we think of Dalmatia we usually think of the sun, the sea, and temperatures often not cold enough to make snow. One thing Splićani are lucky to have are options, and if we ever feel the need to ski (or play in some snow), there are a plethora of ski resorts just a short drive away. Here are some of the top ski resorts in the region just a hop, skip, and jump away from Split.

Kupres Ski Resort: The skiing resort of Kupres is located on the slopes of Stožer in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Both day and night skiing is available at Kupres and there are 13 km of slopes with 3 lifts to transport both skiing and snowboarding guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,310 and 1,720 meters, and Kupres is located 2 km off the Bugojno-Tomislavgrad-Split highway, just 120 km from Split (around a 2 hour drive). Daily passes cost around 12-15 EUR.

Mukinje Ski-Slopes: Mukinje is located within the Plitvice Lakes National Park and is just 800 meters from the center of the National Park. Mukinje offers 3 ski slopes with total length of 1 km. Ski equipment rentals and sets, night skiing, and many lodging options and restaurants are available here, and Mukinje is located just 243 km away from Split (less than a 3 hour drive).

Gorski-Kotar Ski Resorts: Gorski Kotar is the mountainous region in Croatia between Karlovac and Rijeka. There are many ski resorts in the region including Platak Ski Resort, Begovo Razdolje Slopes, Mrkopalj - Čelimbaša Slopes, and Ski Club “Rudnik“ Tršće. Most of the resorts have multiple ski lifts, children’s ski lifts, snowboarding, lessons and gear rentals. The region itself is around 400 km from Split (around a 4-4.5 hour drive). Prices vary from 8-15 EUR per day.

Sljeme Ski Resort: The Sljeme Ski Resort at Medvednica mountain is just 10 km from Zagreb. The total length of the slopes at Sljeme are about 4,000 meters and there are three lifts which can serve up to 3,300 skiers per hour. There are lighting systems for skiing at night, and one of the slopes is equipped to make artificial snow in an effort to prolong the season. The mountain is located around 430 km from Split (about a 4.5 hour drive). Day passes run from about 7-13 EUR.
