Mosor: Your Snow Covered Paradise Just Outside of Split

By 16 January 2017

Mosor is the mountain range located near the city of Split which belongs to the Dinaric Alps. Mosor stretches from the pass of Klis in the northwest to the Cetina River in the southeast.

On Sunday morning, a young family of amateur climbers took advantage of the substantial snow cover Mosor received over the weekend, reports Dalmacija News on January 16, 2017.

“We started the famous trail from the Sitno Gorje Mountain Lodge. After a short break at the lodge for hot tea, we decided to conquer the peak of Sv. Jure (Kozik) on our expedition. During the climb we enjoyed the untouched nature, mountain and untrodden snow. The view of Split and the islands from the top is priceless,” says Bruno, one of the hikers who added that while hiking in the snow they encountered numerous traces of wild animals.

From the lodge to the top the temperature was consistently below 0 degrees Celsius, while on the climb to the top the snow cover was considerably deeper - measuring deeper than half a meter.

“After 5 hours of climbing, walking through deep snow, and finally reaching the days end, we made the final decision to return to Dubrava. Despite the severity of this climb, nothing can diminish the beauty and joy that Mosor gives,” concluded Bruno.

Mosor is located just outside of the city of Split and is easily reachable by car (about a 15 minute drive). The 28 bus is another option, and this will take you to Sitno Gorje - the perfect starting point for the hike up.

Don’t believe all the snow hype? We’re sure this video taken by the Mosor hikers yesterday will change your mind.
