Gallery of Fine Arts Celebrates 65 Years of the Cinema Club Split

In an effort to celebrate 65 years of the Cinema Club Split, a special program will be presented in collaboration with the Gallery of Fine Arts.

On Thursday, May 25th, at 19:00, the Gallery of Fine Arts will host an introductory lecture and panel discussion on the history of the Cinema Club Split. Within the program, visitors will have the opportunity to see several films, notably from the Split cinematographer Ante Verzotti, and ask questions, reports Dalmacija Danas on May 22, 2017.

At the event, there will be screenings of digitized films many of us have not seen since the 80s including „Danas“ (1966), „Objektiv“ (1966), „Fluorescencije“ (1967), and „666“ (1968) by the group of film authors Ranko Kursar, Vjekoslav Nakić, Ante Verzotti, Ivan Martinac, Martin Crvelin, and Andrija Pivčević. The lecture will be held by Sunčica Fradelić in the presence of Ante Verzotti. The opening statement will be given by the director of the Gallery of Fine Arts, Branko Franceschi.

In celebration of 65 years of the Cinema Club Split, and in collaboration with the Gallery of Fine Arts, an additional program has been underway since March 2017 that presents a collection of films from the archives. Through June 25, 2017, as the first of a series of programs in the curatorial choice of Sunčica Fradelić, the audience at the Gallery of Fine Arts can view the films of the golden generation.

Having succeeded when faced with the challenges of the time, the Cinema Club Split has continually operated on the territory of audiovisual education for citizens and the production of films since 1952. They have accomplished this success all while developing and preserving the cultural and artistic content in the local environment, as well as in domestic and international avant-garde cinema.

Since its fruition, the Cinema Club Split has changed addresses four times and has survived five generations - and believe it or not, there are still members of each generation today. Today's club members include valuable citizens and mostly enthusiasts and lovers of film. The club has managed to organize numerous activities that include seminars, programs, screenings, workshops, lectures and film schools, and have produced and co-produced in various collaborations of nearly 700 films, of which over 280 have been filmed on tape.

The Cinema Club Split continues to position itself as a regional center for audiovisual arts and culture - come out and help celebrate 65 years of the wonderful organization!
