ULTRA Europe Day Two Recap: The Bura Comes Out to Play

By 16 July 2017

Day two of ULTRA and the bura tries to steal the show.

After a spectacular opening and an incredible atmosphere that marked the beginning of the fifth edition of ULTRA Europe, the party-packed program once again delighted thousands of dance-happy festivalgoers for day two.

Funnily enough, almost a year later on the dot, the bura came back to visit our eager Ultranauts. The intermittent strong wind, however, did not tempt the visitors with impatience as they waited to watch their favorite stars of the electronic music scene. The bura, with fairly strong gusts at times, did not disrupt the festival quite like it did last year (although some of us may have gotten debris in our eyes).

The ULTRA stages in Split hosted artists that can truly be called the kings of the electronic dance music scene. Steve Angello, Carl Cox, Steve Aoki, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren are some of the most striking and sought after names today, and ULTRA Europe is one of the few festivals to manage to bring them together on the same day.

David Guetta returned in great style, and shortly before the show, he said that he was happy to be back in Split: "I always come to my concerts at the beginning and I like get the plane back home right away. But Croatia has a special place in my heart so I will stay here tomorrow. I want to relax and enjoy your beautiful country,” said Guetta. After Guetta’s set, Steve Aoki, the notorious party maker amongst the DJ bunch, took the stage.

At the Resistance stage, die-hard fans of techno, minimal, and deep house music gathered for hours of two-stepping and head-banging. A real treat for fans of thirsty rhythms was none other than one of the biggest techno legends in the world, Carl Cox. And the even bigger bonus? He treated fans to a three-hour set.

The music was enjoyed until the the early morning hours by famous faces from the local social scene including designer Aleksandra Dojčinović, actor Mislav Čavajda, dancer Tomislav Petranović and Croatian Olympian Mario Todorovic.

Today, the third and final day of the festival will be marked with performances by Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Showtech, The Martinez Brothers and many others.

On Monday, the parties move to the islands with the Brač Regatta at Zlatni Rat beach, then to Hvar for the ULTRA Beach party, and onwards to Vis for the closing party held at fortress Fortica.
