“The ingredients just came to life, people called and asked what was needed,” said chef Braco Sanjin who organized 30 chefs to cook for firefighters and volunteers this morning.
Chef Braco Sanjin, the head chef of O'zlata in Split, announced an open invitation yesterday morning for chefs to gather at the restaurant of hotel Le Meridien Lav to cook for the firefighters and volunteers who had been working tirelessly to fight the fires, reports Poslovni.hr on July 18, 2017.
In the kitchen, which is normally used for large conferences, a dozen hotel chefs and another 20 or so foreign chefs prepared more than a thousand meals for firefighters and volunteers. Sanjin said that people called hungry to help, asking what they could bring - the ingredients all came to life from there.

"Hotel Lav provided us with all that we needed and people called and asked what they could do. We cooked them pasta bolognese, pork with baked potatoes, and meat on the grill with homemade šalsa and mashed potatoes. There were sweets and the team from Zagreb’s Pizzeria O’Hara came and baked hundreds of pizzas, or however many they could bake with the capacity of the ovens. Today, my vendors from Zagreb contacted me and said they will send us meat, and all day people have called me offering food so that we can cook something tomorrow. The situation is now calming down, but help will still be needed for a while,” Sanjin said.

"Since it is not the season for conventions, one of the great banqueting restaurants in Split is free and we offered it so that the chefs could help prepare for the firefighters together with some of our chefs. If it is necessary, we will cook even more for the firefighters and those that have been evacuated,” said Andrijana Mladina, director of Sales and Marketing at Lav.
The hotel is otherwise full and for now and none of the guests have canceled their holiday because of the fire.
Bravo to Braco and the team at Le Meridien Lav for making this happen!
