Happy first day of December, Split! But wait, where did the rest of 2017 go?
Because we won’t complain too much about how fast time flies, we’re sure that no one is upset to greet December today. The new month not only brings holiday magic, cheer, jolly faces and a whole lot of spirit, but the festive fare we get to enjoy this month is more than enough to kick all of us into holiday gear.
The food traditions in Croatia during the holiday season are just another reason we love it here so much. From sarma (cabbage rolls stuffed with minced meat) to sweet bites of warm fritule (small doughnut holes), how could one go wrong?
Surely we must not forget about an essential Croatian Christmas staple, "bakalar" - and what better place to enjoy it this month than in Split?
For those of you that aren’t familiar with bakalar, we are sorry, but don’t fret - we’ll tell you just about everything you need to know without needing to try it....just yet.
Bakalar is a codfish that is dried and salted especially for the holiday season. In Croatia, bakalar is usually prepared two ways - "white" or "red". “White” bakalar is made with potatoes, parsley, and olive oil, while “red” bakalar is prepared with tomato sauce and is similar to a stew or soup. Both ways are delicious, and it wouldn’t be the Christmas season without this beloved dish.
To welcome in the new month and greet the season of bakalar with open arms, Para di Šoto has prepared a fantastic cod-filled menu for all of you under the theme “Ura o bakalara”.
From today through the end of 2017, guests can enjoy the famous fish in a variety of ways through a three-course menu for just 120 HRK.
For starters, guests will begin with a bakalar pate, followed by a bakalar soup, and finished with a bakalar stew.
Guests can also choose to simply try one bakalar item on the menu, which includes the dried fish prepared “white”, legero, in a stew, pate, soup, or a strudel. Prices range from 65-75 HRK for these items.
Because there is no better way to celebrate December, why not join Para di Šoto in their festive fare?
