Split to Rebrand City Transport, Adds 34 Buses to Fleet

By 6 April 2018

Is Split public transportation finally entering the 21st century?

Redesigning the visual identity of “Promet” somewhat symbolically coincides with the optimistic announcements regarding the arrival of 50 new buses, which will undoubtedly mean better days for the Split public transport carrier, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on April 6, 2018.

Already today, travelers will notice city buses on the Split streets that, in addition to the always recognizable yellow color, are white. To kick off the new white and yellow color combination, there will also be nine recently acquired used vehicles from Vienna, and all future fleet reinforcements will also boast this color combination. In time, Promet will even get newer vehicles in excellent condition.

As Ante Zovko, the assistant "Promet" director said, the last color change was back in the early 90s, making it undoubtedly the right time for a fresh brand identity. Some of you may even remember the first color of Promet buses after the company was founded on March 13, 1948, as dark red. From the late 1960s to the early 1990s, Promet buses flaunted a light blue color. Through most of the 1990s, Promet buses were orange, and the most recent color, which most of you have in instilled in your memory, is yellow.

But that's not all. The website of the public transport carrier will also experience a redesign, which should be available to users as soon as next week. The new transport website will be more transparent and user-friendly, and to the delight of most, in both the Croatian and English language. There will also be a unique link to the bus station in Trogir with all the departures for the line in this area.

The many students who use public transport on a daily basis will most certainly be delighted with the installation of free internet on Promet buses, which is currently in the final phase. That said, free Wi-Fi will be implemented on a dozen Promet vehicles - and it will be easier than ever. On the list of your mobile phone's available Wi-Fi networks, users should choose “Promet Media King", connect, and surf!

Regarding the announced acquisition of new vehicles, within the “No regret" project, 34 new buses will be available to Promet in exchange for old ones. This project envisages the fleet renewal for carriers owned by local self-government units.

As Tomislav Vojnović, the director of the Split public transport company said after the city and “Promet" signed a contract for the provision of utility services and compensation for transporting passengers in public traffic on the basis of EU Regulation 1370, a feasibility study was drafted as well as a public tender that will be submitted to the Ministry of Transport this month.

“This means that immediately after, we can go through the public procurement procedure for new buses. Provided that the whole process runs smoothly, new buses can be delivered by early February next year,” announced Vojnović.

As part of the Urban Agglomeration project, which is led by the City of Split, this company has 16 new vehicles available through ITU mechanisms, along with a new ticketing system. In a few months, an open invitation for a tender is expected.
