Long Weekend Expects 70,000 Passengers through Split's Ferry Port!

By 23 June 2018

On Friday, the Petar Hektorović boat that sailed for Vis failed to load 50 cars!

Despite the bad weather on Friday, hoards of travelers continued to crowd Split's ferry port - but that's no surprise.

With a holiday weekend ahead, many wished to spend their free days on one of Dalmatia’s central islands - and to show you just how crowded it was, the Petar Hektorović ferry to Vis at 11 am could not load up to 50 cars, reports Dalmacija Danas on June 23, 2018.

Although the intense crowds were reduced, Saturday has not been much quieter. Jadrolinija's head of sales in Split, Jelena Ivulić, commented on this weekend’s traffic.

“The traffic has increased because of the holiday weekend. Over these four days, we expect about 70,000 passengers through Split's ferry port and about 13,000 vehicles. Regardless of the great pressure on the harbor, we are reacting according to our resources and capabilities. I can say that the crowd is standard for this time of the year,” Ivulić said to Dalmacija Danas.

Yesterday's crowds on and around the ferries can be seen through the eyes of photographer Zvonimir Barišin.
