Asian Fusion in the Heart of Split: Silk Street Food Road Test

For those of you that don’t know, the heart of Split was graced with a sanctuary for Asian food enthusiasts last week - Silk Street Food. The second location of the street food establishment which originally opened in Korčula town in 2016, Silk is a fusion restaurant that serves up classic Asian dishes while bringing a fresh twist to standard Asian grub. 

Total Split was lucky to be a part of the tasting party last week, where we were able to try bits and pieces of Silk’s extensive yet clean menu - and we liked it so much, we took Silk for a spin again.

After taking a seat at Silk’s outdoor alleyway seating on a hot summer day, one quick glance at the tempting menu and we knew we’d have to try a bit of everything. With so many enticing starters to choose from, we opted for the vegetable gyoza (with a chili mayo), spring rolls, and the crispy baby squid with lime and red chili.

The spring rolls came out piping hot and were served with a tasty sweet and sour dip.

The veggie gyoza was perfectly fried, with a hearty helping in each bite. And trust us, you’ll want seconds of the chili mayo.

Our favorite starter was the crispy baby squid; nibbles of melt-in-your-mouth squid, crunchy to perfection, with spicy pops of chili. How could you go wrong?

For the mains, we went for the vegetable red curry and the kimchi fried rice.

The red curry was creamy with just the right kick of spice, loaded with fresh veggies and a slice of lime for those of you who prefer a tad of sharpness. 

The kimchi fried rice is Silk's real standout dish that’ll have us coming back again and again.

A hearty bowl of fluffy rice, fried with all of the fixings from eggs to carrots and cabbage, the real showstopper of this dish was the gently fried egg resting on top, sprinkled with green onions and sesame seeds. We suggest you eat the dish piping hot and allow the rice to absorb the egg yolk - you'll thank us later. 

When Silk says ‘served fast’, they mean it. Their punctual chefs had each dish out in minutes, allowing us to taste a little of everything all at once.
