Horse-Driven Carriages Arrive in Marian Shrine of Marija Bistrica for Pilgrimage

ZAGREB, 21 August, 2022 - The traditional 20th pilgrimage of horse-ridden carriages and horsemen was held in Croatia's central Marian shrine of Marija Bistrica on Sunday, and the event called "Vozočašće" in Croatian was organised by the horse breeders association in Krapina-Zagorje County.

Addressing the event, Agriculture Minister Marija Vučković, promised further help to the horse-breeding sector.

The agriculture ministry's state secretary, Zdravko Tušek, said that currently, there are over 30,000 horses in Croatia, and 700 of them are in Krapina-Zagorje County, where there are also over 300 horse breeders.

The county's prefect, Željko Kolar, said that "Vozočašće" pilgrimage contributes to " the local culture, tradition, and tourism."

 In attendance at the event was a former president, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
