It will be the first Infosys development centre outside India.
About a hundred mechanical engineers and electrical engineers will work from Karlovac and develop advanced technological solutions for leading energy companies in Europe and the world as employees of Infosys, a global leader in technology services and consulting, with clients in more than 50 countries worldwide, reports Večernji List on April 19, 2017.
It will be the first Infosys development centre outside India and will employ exclusively engineers and other highly-educated employees. After a series of problems, Infosys has found the office space and finally settled in Karlovac. The company is located at the Agram group building in the centre of the town and will organize an opening ceremony on Monday which will be attended by leaders of Infosys from the company headquarters, as well as those in charge of southeast Europe.
Infosys is a company with more than 200,000 employees and 10.2 billion dollars in revenues. It has decided to make an investment in Croatia primarily because of the knowledge and experience of its future workers. Infosys is a global company focused on the new generation of services and it enables its customers to execute digital transformation. With its investment in Karlovac, it is now expanding to southeast Europe. Last year, the largest Indian software services exporter established centres for solutions delivery in Russia and Croatia, in order to expand its global network and provide services in Eastern Europe.
“Establishment of centres in Croatia and Russia allows us access to a rich pool of engineering talent,” said last year the president and global head of production and logistics Sandeep Dadlani. Infosys signed a contract with the Italian company Ansaldo Energia, a manufacturer of thermal power plants. It will provide it with engineering services and will support the Italian company through its offices in Karlovac and Moscow.
For Karlovac, the investment is a welcomed move which will make it more attractive for other global companies. However, until recently, the story did not seems like it would have a happy ending. A year ago the Alstom company, which employed 130 engineers, was bought by General Electric. Its intention was not to develop the company any further, so these highly educated employees almost found themselves out of work, at least when it came to their home town. However, Infosys has found its interest and invested in them and their skills so they have managed to keep their employment in Karlovac.
