Croatian Post Invests 345 Million Kuna in Logistics Centre

By 16 May 2017

This is a major investment for Croatian Post, but also an important step which should further develop the logistics sector in Croatia.

Croatian Post will invest 345 million kuna in a new sorting centre in Velika Gorica near Zagreb, at the site which is located near Zagreb Airport. Contractors for the project are a community of bidders gathered around the Presoflex company from Požega and GH Holding from Slovenia, reports Poslovni.hr on May 16, 2017.

The supervision of the construction works will be performed by IGH, and the designer of the complex is APZ Inženjering. The value of the contracted works for the first stage of the new sorting centre amounts to 155 million kuna, and the works should be completed within 18 months.

The first phase will include 32,000 square metres of facilities with a sorting plant, a warehouse, as well as a data centre. After the completion of the second stage of the project, the whole sorting centre will have an area of 38,200 square metres.

Croatian Post says that the importance of this project is the fact that the establishment and construction of the new sorting centre as a logistics postal centre will improve the quality and speed of meeting the requirements for postal market processes.

The biggest advantage will be faster and better processing, sorting and delivery of shipments and packages. It is a capital investment for Croatian Post, but also a valuable step forward for the logistics sector in Croatia. The site at which the complex will be built is located at a strategically important point near the airport, but also close to the Zagreb-Sisak motorway and the Zagreb-Velika Gorica main road.

Croatian Post as it exists today was founded in 1999, when the previous state-owned company Croatian Post and Telecommunications split into Croatian Post and Croatian Telecommunications. Croatian Post has been functioning ever since as an independent company, continuing the tradition and continuity of postal activity in the territory of Croatia. Just like many postal services in other countries, it is facing a decline in the number of shipments, although online shopping has contributed to somewhat better results in the delivery of packages.
