Can Slavonia host Tourism Days? Can there Be a Synergy?

By 23 June 2017

Croatian Tourism Days are due to be held this October in Mali Lošinj, organised by the Tourism Ministry, Croatian Chamber of Economy and Croatian Tourism Board

The traditional meeting of tourism workers, over one thousand of them, will again see tourism awards for individuals, representatives of the tourism industry and the best destinations. “Croatian Tourism Days have been taking place for many years in various Croatian destinations, so in the past few years this meeting was hosted by Bol on Brač Island, Poreč, Opatija, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Šibenik and Rovinj. In the spirit of holding the meeting in various destinations, but also enticing tourism on Croatian islands, this year the Tourism Days will be held on Lošinj Island – Mali Lošinj town,” said Tourism Minister Cappelli.

Tourism Days have so far been exclusively held in coastal Croatia. I wonder why they never took place in continental Croatia or Slavonia? In Osijek, Požega, Vinkovci or Vukovar, for example? Simply as a declaration of support for continental tourism.

This is why I am starting an initiative for Tourism Days 2018 to be held in Slavonia. Currently there is a wider support from the tourism branch to hold the meeting in Slavonia, but before that I am interested in the opinion of the Tourism Minister on this idea, who stated the development of continental tourism is one of his main goals. “The development of the Croatian continent is one of the priorities of the Croatian government, and the development of continental tourism is one of the main goals in my mandate. For that reason, I support your initiative for Tourism Days to be held in the future in a continental destination, which would surely stimulate the tourism segment and worthy participants in the tourism of the Croatian continent. In choosing the destination we must keep an eye on accommodation options and the size of available halls for such a large meetings which gathers over 1.000 participants every year,” said Minister Cappelli.

Certainly Slavonia does not have a hotel that can host 1.000 guests, but every problem has a solution. As we have a year to “campaign,” I will soon propose my solutions to the problem, as well as other ideas and vocal thoughts of other tourism workers. Two heads are always smarter than one, so I use this opportunity to propose your ideas and your vision how to best make use of this situation for the promotion and positioning of Slavonia as a tourism destination.

The initiative has been started, it is up to you, especially tourism workers in Slavonia, to support it each in your way and to finally show the synergy of all tourism destinations in Slavonia. It’s all down to the people, it’s all down to you.
