First Hotel in Istria Receives Gluten Free Certificate

By 28 June 2017

If you suffer with Coeliac disease, or you just want to avoid gluten, this is the place to go.

The Park Plaza Arena Pula Hotel has received the “BOSK gluten free standard” certificate, as the first hotel in Istria, one of the most developed tourist regions in Croatia. It is also the hotel with the only a la carte restaurant on the Adriatic coast with a whole gluten free offer, reports Poslovni.hr on June 28, 2017.

Taking into account the combination of today's most up-to-date trends in hospitality and hotel industry, as well as healthy living and nutrition insights, led by research that confirms that gluten is one of the most abundant allergens in food, the Arena Hospitality Group, in cooperation with the BOSK company from Rijeka, has selected the Park Plaza Arena Pula Hotel to fully implement the standardization of the complete process of preparation and serving of gluten free food.

The BOSK gluten free standard certificate is intended for hoteliers and caterers and provides practical knowledge on the preparation and serving of non-gluten dishes. It is based on scientifically proven and globally accepted food safety protocols and HACCP system principles, good production practices and good hygienic practices.

“The BOSK gluten free standard has been developed in order to reduce the risk of contamination of prepared meals and sweets with gluten, and prescribes protocols for food processing, storage, preparation and serving, as well as corrective measures for suspected contamination cases,” announced BOSK.

It is estimated that today there are more than 70 million people who are sensitive or intolerant to gluten, 190 million individuals who avoid eating wheat and gluten, and 11 million people suffering from celiac disease, an autoimmune disease which is the ultimate expression of gluten intolerance.

This, as well as many other gluten-related facts, have led to the development of BOSK gluten-free standard, which will enable people who must or want to avoid gluten to visit restaurants and hotels which, by implementing strict standards, provide a gluten free offer, because just cooking with gluten-free products is not enough for a restaurant to be gluten-free.
