By 28 September 2017

The whole family is exceptionally gifted.

Dorijan Lendvaj (13) from Popovača has won six titles of national champion in software development, and last year he became the world champion in robotics, while this year he won the third place at the European Youth IT Olympics and a special award as the youngest medal winner at the competition. To mark all the successes, Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivo Žinić organised a reception for the little genius and his father, reports Jutarnji List on September 28, 2017.

Dorian’s other achievements are also fascinating. He was the youngest participant in the national competition in the software development, which he attended as a second-grade student. In the qualifications for the world natural science Olympics (physics, chemistry, biology), he was the best-placed student of his generation.

At the first Croatian Junior Mathematics Olympics, he won the first place with 100 percent of the solved tasks. Last year, he became the world champion in robotics, and the Croatian primary school team, which he was the captain of, won the superfinals against Singapore.

According to Dorijan’s father Vlado, himself an IT expert, the largest contribution to Dorijan’s successes has been given by his older brother Vilim (18), a multiple national champion in computer sciences, who this year won a silver medal at the World IT Olympics. Younger sister Dora (12) is following her brothers’ footsteps and this year became the national champion among fifth-grade software developers, the first girl to succeed after years of male domination.

Žinić promised Dorijan and similarly talented students that the county would help with the costs of travel to the world and European competitions and expressed hope that Dorijan would one day become a cornerstone of the development of IT technology sector in Sisak-Moslavina County and throughout Croatia.

Dorijan’s father Vlado pointed out that the educational system, unfortunately, does not systematically support such gifted pupils, but that in all schools there are teachers who are ready to work additionally with talented children and encourage their personal development. He thanked Sisak-Moslavina County for its support.
