By 9 October 2017

Nearly 150 million passengers were transported by city transport in Zagreb in half a year.

According to the data from Department of Statistics of the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development of the City, Zagreb City Transport has transported 149.7 million passengers in the first half of this year, which is 0.9 percent more than in the same period last year. By the end of June the city transport had 3.727 employees, 1.4 percent more than a year ago, reports Poslovni.hr on October 6, 2017.

More than two-thirds of passengers, or 68.3 percent, were transported by ZET trams, which transported over 102.3 million passengers in the first six months of this year. Nearly 47.1 million passengers were transported by ZET buses in Zagreb, and 374 thousand passengers were transported by Zagreb funicular.

According to ZET data, trams and buses transported  0.9 percent more passengers than in the same period last year, while the funicular recorded a 9.4 percent increase in passenger numbers. At the end of June this year, Zagreb's city carrier had 3.727 employees, which is 1.4 percent more than at the end of June last year.

The number of drivers grew slightly, which at the end of June amounted to 1,770 or 1.1 percent more than at the end of June last year, while the number of other employees grew faster, by 1.7 percent, to 1,924.

According to data on the carriage of goods by road gathered by the Central Bureau of Statistics, in the first half of the year, legal and physical persons engaged in the carriage of goods in Zagreb and the owners or users of the road freight vehicle transported a total of 7.4 million tonnes of goods, which is 11,4 percent less than in the same period last year. This decrease was the result of the decline in freight domestic transport, which with 6.4 million tons of goods transported records a 12.9 percent decrease, while international transport stagnates with more than one million tons of transported goods.

The decline was affected by the decline in legal entities, which transported 7.1 million tonnes of goods in the first six months, or 12.1 percent less than last year. At the same time, physical persons transported 10.4 percent more goods or 307 thousand tonnes.
