A rather large spanner in the works for Split's Westgate.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 20th of February, 2018, the construction of Westage's skyscraper in the Dalmatian capital didn't grind to a halt just because of the wait for a 27-level tower upgrade license. The well-known Tehnika construction company from Zagreb filed a proposal with the Municipal Court in Split for the purpose of securing the monetary claim by determining provisional measures.
The company claims 11.8 million kuna from the investor company "Westgate Tower" for unpaid works, along with whatever interest owed with the capital amount.
The request submitted by Tehnika has been entered into the ownership of the project, which is being realised at the intersection of Domovinski rat street (Ulica Domovinskog rata) and Put Stinica, Slobodna Dalmacija writes.
In their request, the builders are asking for a ''temporary ban of the estrangement of the property and its additional burden so that it can be charged in cash". They also announced the commencement of civil proceedings for payment.
Tehnika is referring to the contracts concluded by which the investor had to pay by the 31st of December 2017 for the contracted interest of seven percent, starting on June the 1st. They state that they "did their part of the job to which Westgate had no objections."
Since the investor intends to sell the skyscraper to one of the world's leading hotel chains, Tehnika has decided to include a provisional measure prohibiting asset disposal, so that an investor would not sell the property to a third party until they're paid. This measure also applies to the six underground garage floors and the reinforced concrete structures of 17 overhead floors.
Investor Josip Komar stated that the construction site has been at a standstill for nearly three months and that this situation doesn't help anyone, as it causes enormous costs and irritation to all participants involved.
''Concerning the relationship between our company and Tehnika, works were contracted in the total amount of 260 million kuna, and for the construction of Tower B, there have been 13 temporary (construction) cases, of which 11 were paid,'' Komar concluded.
