The island of Koločep (Kalamota) is in for a change or two.
As Dubrovacki Dnevnik writes on the 12th of May, 2018, the Department for Construction and Project Management of the City of Dubrovnik has put the motions in place for a major project for the reconstruction of the public sanitary facility in Donje Čelo on the island of Koločep, along with the renovation of the lookout point on the roof of the building and the re-doing and landscaping of the park.
In the existing public toilet facilities, the water and drainage system, the floor and wall coverings, as well asthe sanitary items and accessories will all be changed. Additionally, the currently non-existent lighting and ventilation of the area will be re-done, while the waste and water drainage system will be solved by constructing of a bio-pit in front of the building itself.
As the ground floor located near the sea just south of the pier for the ships has access to the roof of the stairs, the flat roof surface will be designed as a lookout point with the necessary equipment; a fence and a bench.
The park next to the sanitary facility will be landscaped according to the plans of the already crafted design concept, and the space will be enhanced by Mediterranean and autochthonous plant species such as lavender, rosemary, sage, oranges, and olives. The park will be properly equipped with all the necessary means including but not limited to benches and new lighting fixtures, and pedestrian paths will be properly done up with clearly marked with pebble pathways.
The city of Dubrovnik is planning to start implementing the aforementioned project on the island following the end of 2018's main tourist season.
The estimated value of the investment stands at about half a million kuna, with funding for the project co-financed with the City of Dubrovnik's already approved for non-refundable funds in the amount of 250,000 kuna.
