British American Tobacco Hiring 100 Experts in Croatia

By 17 May 2018

ZAGREB, May 17, 2018 - British American Tobacco (BAT) said on Thursday it would employ 100 experts in Croatia who will become part of a global team for technologically innovative new generations of tobacco products.

We are giving everyone interested in Croatia the opportunity to participate in the transformation of the industry and begin a career in a stimulating atmosphere, said Antal Bekefi, director general of BAT's Adria region.

Croatia will be one of the first countries in which BAT will sell glo, its heat-not-burn tobacco product which has been launched in Japan, Switzerland, South Korea, Canada, Italy and Romania, BAT said in a press release.

BAT is continuing to invest and hire in Croatia, notably in the tobacco product factory in Kanfanar, which produced 10 billion cigarettes last year and plans to produce 12.5 billion this year, a 50% increase since the time BAT took over the Rovinj Tobacco Factory (TDR) two and a half years ago.

In 2019, BAT plans to produce 20 billion cigarettes in Kanfanar.

Since it acquired TDR, BAT will have invested 45 million euro by the end of this year, the company said, adding that it also planned to increase storage capacities in Kanfanar.

Last year, TDR hired over 170 people, while over 200 were hired for all BAT operations in Croatia. Over the past two and a half years, BAT has increased the number of employees in Croatia by 7%. Today over 1,700 people work in the Croatian part of BAT's Adria cluster.
