SPAR Croatia, one of the largest retail chains in Croatia, announced on Monday that its stores would close down on Wednesday at 7.30 pm, in order to allow employees to watch the World Cup semi-final match between Croatia and England.

“Over the past several weeks, the whole of Croatia has been watching and celebrating the successes of the Croatian football team at the World Cup in Russia. To enable our employees to watch the semi-final match between Croatia and England, SPAR Croatia will close all SPAR supermarkets and INTERSPAR hypermarkets on Wednesday, July 11, at 7.30 pm.

Customers around the country have at their disposal all 109 SPAR and INTERSPAR stores, in which they can get everything needed for watching football games, from a large selection of beers to various snacks and fan props.

“On this special occasion, we ask our customers for their understanding and to adjust their shopping activities on Wednesday to the shortened working hours,” said the company in a press release.

Other retail chains have not yet announced their plans.
