Experts from the Faculty and Uber will jointly work on addressing traffic problems, while Uber will award scholarships to ten students from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb and Uber have signed a memorandum of understanding confirming their cooperation on the development of smart cities, on the issues of growing global demand for shared mobility services, and on analysing their importance for cities and the wider community.
Both sides have stressed that they are aware that the exchange of knowledge between the academia and leading high technology companies is of paramount importance for strengthening the competitiveness of the Croatian economy and solving traffic problems. Experts from the Faculty and Uber will, therefore, work together to solve traffic jams and improve the ways of moving through towns, sharing transport and establishing smart cities.
“The signed memorandum on cooperation between the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences and Uber encourages co-operation between the academia and the business community. The Faculty is one of the leading Croatian scientific research institutes in the field of traffic sciences. Through its study programmes, it educates students to solve problems of urban mobility. The scholarships will serve as an additional motivation for students to design innovative solutions to the transport challenges in urban environments,” said Hrvoje Gold, the dean of the School of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
In addition to joint research projects, guest lectures and seminars, the Faculty of Traffic Sciences and Uber will devote their efforts to finding the best market and regulatory approaches in these areas and will include all relevant stakeholders in the dialogue.
“In accordance with this memorandum, Uber and the Faculty will jointly seek answers to the transport challenges facing towns in Croatia, with particular emphasis on traffic problems resulting from poor infrastructure and traffic organization. We will continue to encourage the development of technological innovations in the field of mobility and we will award ten scholarships,” said Davor Tremac, Uber’s general manager for southeast Europe.
By signing the memorandum, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences will be positioned as one of the leaders in the design of innovative solutions to traffic congestion problems in towns, which is one of the biggest challenges in the urbanization process. Uber, as a global innovative technology company, is already working on such solutions, efficiently linking customers with transport services providers.
