Court Delays Final Decision on Croatia Airlines Strike Legality

By 8 August 2018

ZAGREB, August 8, 2018 - Zagreb County Court has deferred issuing a final decision on the legality of a strike at Croatia Airlines (CA) announced by the ORCA and HSPP cabin crew and pilots' trade unions who are demanding negotiations on a new collective agreement.

The court sat in session on Wednesday and listened to arguments presented by the parties involved and said that it would deliver its decision on Thursday.

The court on Tuesday issued a temporary injunction barring the two trade unions from staging a strike in the national flag carrier, stating that the strike would cause irreparable damage.

The ORCA union on Wednesday said that if the strike is banned, it would take the matter to the Supreme Court.

CA's management had earlier warned that the strike would cause losses of 800,000 euro and impact 7,000 passengers a day, and called on the unions to carefully consider "the significance and consequences of a strike at this particular time."

A member of CA's management board Branka Sremac said that she hoped tomorrow's decision by Zagreb County Court on the legitimacy of the strike would uphold the interim injunction barring the stop work in the height of the season.
