Valamar Crosses Croatia's Borders, Purchases Austrian Hotel

By 21 August 2018

Croatia's popular Valamar has expanded beyond the country's borders in buying a hotel in Austria.

We reported several weeks ago on Valamar's interest in expanding their business operations outside of Croatia's borders, their prime target being a skiing hotel in nearby Austria. The hotel itself is located in the area of the Salzburg Alps, it is described as a standard ski hotel of the four-star mark, with a capacity of 80 accommodation units.

As Marta Duic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 20th of August, 2018, after announcing that they submitted a binding offer for the hotel Petersbühel 4* in the Austrian ski resort of Obertauern recently, Croatia's largest domestic tourism company has now taken the next concrete step and formalised this acquisition.

As they announced yesterday from Valamar, the sales contract has now been signed. This popular domestic "player" will be the first to go beyond the Croatian borders, which stands out as an extremely important step in Valamar's business.

"Austria is a significant tourist country for holiday tourism with a range of potential synergies for Croatian tourist companies, so it's also a logical choice to start with the internationalisation of business," they stated from Valamar yesterday.

It's worth mentioning that, as was already written back in July, for a company that is mainly engaged in summer tourism in Croatia, this is a bold step in the sense of creating the first skiing tourist ''product'' and could thus become a sort of pilot for some new takeovers in the future. In addition, Austrian businesses could serve as an ideal opportunity for personnel synergy. This means opening up the possibility for workers to move from winter to summer destinations and vice versa, thus increasing the number of permanent employees and further stimulating the entire business.
