Ukrainians Ready to Invest in Croatian Shipyards?

By 10 October 2018

ZAGREB, October 10, 2018 - Economy Minister Darko Horvat will meet on Wednesday with potential partners from Ukraine interested in buying a stake in Rijeka's 3. Maj shipyard.

"Right now I am in talks with potential partners and one of them is coming tomorrow. They are Ukrainians interested in entering the ownership structure of 3. Maj, and they are the fourth serious partner so far," Horvat told reporters ahead of an inner cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

More will be known after it becomes clear whether the potential partners are really interested or these are just preliminary meetings to identify the situation in the Croatian shipbuilding sector, he added.

Horvat confirmed that he had earlier met with potential partners from Italy.

He said that the ministry had not yet received an opinion from the European Commission about the amended restructuring plan for the Pula-based Uljanik shipyard.

Asked if there was any chance of the government becoming a majority owner of Uljanik, Horvat replied in the negative.
