Croatia Among Countries With the Highest Export Growth in the EU

Croatia export growth far above the EU average. 

In the first half of the year, Croatia was one of the EU members states with the highest export growth rates, according to a new report by the European statistics office. During that period, the total export of goods grew by 12 percent compared to the same period last year. In the first five months, export growth was 10 percent, according to Eurostat, reports Novi List on August 18, 2015.

Croatia has therefore kept its position in the group of EU countries with the highest growth rates of exports of goods on an annual basis. The group is led by Cyprus with an increase in exports by 28 percent. Ireland and Malta follow with 19 and 16 percent respectively.

Croatian exports of goods to other EU member states have increased in the first half of the year by 16 percent compared to the same period last year, outperforming the result from the first five months when they increased by 13 percent. A higher growth of exports to other EU member states in the first half of the year was recorded only in Ireland, with 21 percent, while Cyprus is third with an increase in exports to other EU countries by 14 percent.

The total imports of goods to Croatia increased in the first half of the year by five percent compared to the same period last year. The biggest growth in imports of goods was again recorded by Malta, with 37 percent. Double-digit growth of the total imports of goods was recorded by Ireland and the United Kingdom as well.

According to the first estimate of Eurostat, in June EU exports have increased by 13 percent over the same month last year, to 159.7 billion euros. Imports of goods into the EU rose by seven percent in June year on year, to 149.3 billion euros. Therefore, the surplus in trade of 28 EU member states with the rest of the world in June reached 10.4 billion euros. In June of last year, it amounted to only two billion euros, according to European statistics office.
