Fancy a little torture? A new museum opening in Zagreb this week.
Tortureum, Croatia's first torture museum, will open its doors in zagreb this Friday, July 10th.
The museum will display an impressive collection of equipment and gadgets that have been used for torture and execution from the Ancient times until today.
Similar museums can be seen all over the world and they regularly attract a large number of tourists so organizers are hoping the same will happen with the museum in Zagreb which will be located in the very centre of the city in Radićeva 14.
More than 70 skillfully crafted replicas of instruments and equipment will be on display and visitors will even have the opportunity to try some of them such as the mask of shame, torture chair or the good old ball and chain.
Some of the most chilling items on display are the very realistic replica of the 1792 guillotine, pendulum – a swinging ax that gradually ascends towards you, well known stretcher – device that forced out more confessions than bad alcohol and of course The Maiden (The Virgin of Nuremberg) – one of the cruelest medieval torture devices.
All items on display are accompanied by chilling sound effects and they are presented through specially designed multimedia guides that are sure to make your blood run cold.
As we say, to each his own, so, if this is your cup of tea….enjoy.
