Ana Konjuh In The Semi-Finals of WTA Bol Open Today

Great tennis in Bol, and more to come in the next two days.

In the first semifinal of the WTA Bol Open, on June 4. 2016, at 1.30pm, Nao Hibino of Japan will play against the Slovenian Polona Hercog. After that at 5 pm with live coverage on Croatian Television, home player Ana Konjuh will play against Luxemburgian Mandy Minella.

The best ranked Croatian defeated her compatriot Tereza Mrdeža with 6-3, 7-6(5). “I tip my hat to Tereza, she put me out of my rhythm which I did not like. It was a tough battle for every point and every game” –said Konjuh after the match.

Tereza Mrdeža put up resistance against her younger opponent. “We know each other for a long time, she is a quality opponent, she started to play better, managed to keep on the rhythm. All in all I knew I had nothing to lose. Considering this is my third tournament after surgery and that I came to Bol after a 10k tournament and she came after Roland Garros, it is all crystal clear” – said Mrdeža

Today, Konjuh will play against Luxemburg’s Mandy Minella, ranked 186th on the WTA list. “I have never played against her, I don’t know her that well. I expect a good match. We are both tired, I expect a huge fight and some good tennis.” – said Ana.

The Luxemburger Minella is impressed with Bol. “This tournament has fantastic organization. I wish every tournament was like this one. It is hosted on the hotel courts and Bol is like a paradise. We have an excellent Spa, the food is great. For other tournaments you have to travel a lot between accommodation and it is not as nice as it is here."

“I plan to play in the finals of every tournament. So far so good, I took my chances in all of my matches. If I continue like that I might get even better”- said Polona Hercog.

If you are in vicinity of Bol, we highly recommend making the trip and enjoy both excellent tennis and a beautiful venue.
