Transport investments in the Croatian capital are partially fuelled by EU funds
City of Zagreb has clinched 24 million Euro, granted from EU funds since January 2014 and pertains to a total of 14 projects. The largest single withdrawn amount of 6.66 million applies to a project of e-schools, whose goal is the computerization of 25 city elementary and high schools, Poslovni.hr reports on June 10, 2016.
One of the most important projects for Zagreb citizens is the reconstruction and expansion of the water supply network and sewage system, for which over 4 million Euro has been allocated. Same goes for the construction of a backbone pipeline Aleja Bologne - Lisičina, with 2.6 million Euro allocated, meant to upgrade the fresh water supply for 65 thousand residents.
The Office for EU programmes and projects states that preparations are underway for a prestudy of feasibility together with the Ministry of Maritime Transport, Traffic and Infrastructure, in order to realise the long awaited project of connecting Zagreb and the new Franjo Tuđman international airport. The value of this investment, awaited for over a decade by residents of Velika Gorica and Zagreb, is estimated to over 50 million Euro.
“Public transport improvement projects include upgrading tram traffic as well as the completion of an integral bicycle network,” EU Office head Jelena Ricov said emphasising that modern cycling lanes will be connected to the already started Greenway project: the building of a 152 kilometre cycling state route along the crown of the Sava embankment valued at 18.6 million Euro.
