HDZ: Vote on Dismissal of Prime Minister to Take Place on Thursday

By 13 June 2016

HDZ Presidency confirms current Finance Minister as their candidate for Prime Minister-designate.

HDZ Presidency met on Monday afternoon, together with all of HDZ’s ministers in the current government. After the meeting ended, HDZ secretary general Domagoj Ivan Milošević and current Finance Minister and candidate for Prime Minister-designate Zdravko Marić spoke with the media, reports Jutarnji List on June 13, 2016.

“Today we had a meeting of the HDZ Presidency in order to determine the sequence of events: we have confirmed Mr. Marić as the candidate for the Prime Minister-designate; a vote on the motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković will take place on Thursday, but we believe that it would be appropriate for the Prime Minister to resign himself since there is no more trust within the government”, said Milošević.

“We have all seen that this government has reached the end of the road. We are ready to talk with all those who are aware of the situation in which the country finds itself. We need economic and financial stability”, said Milošević. “These are our next steps, and there will be no more discussion”, he concluded.

Journalists asked Marić about the fact that he, just like current Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, did not take part in the parliamentary elections. “I took the opportunity during the meeting to listen to the discussion and express my views. I am honored by the decision which I see as a great obligation and responsibility. As the current Finance Minister, I am aware of the situation in which we find ourselves and of the potential of the Croatian economy and society. We need stability”, said Marić.

Asked whether HDZ had 76 MPs ready to support his future government, there was no conclusive answer. “I have received support of HDZ Presidency as a potential candidate, but we still need to complete certain steps which we all need to do”, said Marić.

Reporters asked him whether he feared that he might suffer the same fate as the current Prime Minister. “I am deeply aware of the moment in which we find ourselves. My contacts in Croatia and in international financial circles are giving me message that the country needs political stability. I am prepared for all these challenges”, he concluded.
