After many cities in Croatia and abroad, smart benches developed by Ivan Mrvoš finally come to Croatia’s capital.
The first solar smart bench in Zagreb was unveiled during a special ceremony in front of the building which houses the administration of the University of Zagreb, reports Poslovni.hr on June 22, 2016.
The solar bench is a gift by the Ladies Lions Club “Zrinjevac” to the students of the University of Zagreb, with the aim of promoting greater use of green and sustainable technologies.
Solar benches are an innovative idea and a project developed by Ivan Mrvoš, a young student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Split.
In addition to being a place to sit down, the smart bench allows simultaneous charging of four mobile phones or tablets, it has a hotspot to connect to the internet, sensors for monitoring air quality, and at night it serves as a public lighting system. The bench can operate for as many as ten days without sun, and is resistant to acts of vandalism.
The ceremony of the unveiling the first solar bench in front of the university building began with a short address by the developer Ivan Mrvoš, who presented its technical capabilities and indicated his further plans for the development of this innovative project. His presentation was followed by speeches by the president of the Ladies Lions Club "Zrinjevac" Vesna Boinović-Grubić, and the Rector of the University of Zagreb Damir Boras.
