Vedran Corluka will be added to UEFA's museum as the first ever football player to play a match with a water polo cap on.
As it was reported by UEFA on June 23, 2016, Vedran Corluka, Croatian football player whose photos circled the globe after playing in a water polo cap to help the healing of his injured head, will be added to UEFA’s museum. Because of his cap, of course.
Just in case you forgot, Corluka was injured during a match against Turkey, and after his head bandage kept unwrapping, he showed up on the pitch with a water polo cap in Croatian national colours (sans the ear covers). It didn’t take long for everyone to start wondering where he got this clever “help” in the middle of a football game, and Dubrovacki tjednik got to the bottom of it.
The main culprit for this bold “fashion” statement is the team doctor Boris Nemec who placed the cap on Charlie’s head during halftime in the match against the Czech Republic. Doctor Nemec got it as a gift from yet another famous Croatian athlete, Jug’s water polo player Paulo Obradovic after one of 5 knee surgeries he performed on Paulo. Popular Medo (Bear, Obradovic’s nickname) confirmed this story and said he is extremely proud his gift was used to help Corluka with his bandage mishaps.
Photos of Corluka wearing the cap were published by media representatives all over the world, and this unusual medical aid is now the reason he will be introduced to UEFA’s museum as the first ever football player to play a game with a water polo cap on.

Thankfully, the cap was retired during the match against Spain and Vedran will be ready for the big clash against Christiano Ronaldo. Perfect opportunity for a little joke, hope you don't mind.
