The economy of Zagreb county is based on services, agriculture and classic industry, while this ring area with 300,000 residents around the capital has more than 6,500 entrepreneurs
The most successful enterprises of Zagreb county are concentrated in two centres - Velika Gorica on one side and Sveta Nedjelja and Zaprešić on the other side. A separate story is Vrbovec, the home of PIK Vrbovec, reports Tportal.hr on June 27, 2016.
Natural resources, economic capacity and its constant modernisation and new construction result in high quality products and their export to foreign markets. A high 58% of all products from Zagreb county are exported. The county has great potential especially if it activated economy zones and improves logistics and transport.
With an annual income approaching 500 million Euro, the largest company is the retail chain Lidl, with a profit of 24.6 million Euro, employing 1,610 people. Lidl has a 13 percent growth of income and 70 percent growth of profit.
The second largest is PIK Vrbovec from the Agrokor concern. With 1,950 workers, PIK is the largest employer in the Zagreb ring. Last year the profit was 12.1 million Euro with 280 milion income.
Third place is taken by Porsche Croatia (with an income of 226 million Euro), the company that imports and sells Volkswagen, Audi Škoda, Seat and Porsche vehicles.
Another success comes from Velika Gorica - Autozubak (with 87.8 million Euro income). Both companies employ around 600 people.
Besides being a car sales centre, Velika Gorica is also home to a large aviation complex, headed by the Zagreb International Airport and Croatian Air Traffic Control.
Last year the airport had an income of 146 million Euro and 1.6 million profit with 97 employees. Flight controllers made 6.93 million Euro, with an income of 106.6 million. Flight control employs 699 people.
On the western side of the county, many companies have bunched into the small area between Sveta Nedjelja and Zaprešić. What transportation is to Velika Gorica, pharmacology is to this area.
Medical Intertrade deals with medicine and equipment for hospitals and dental practices, with an income of 200 million Euro and profit of 2 million. On the other hand, Hospira (owned by Pfizer) had a 133 million Euro income and 10.9 million profit.
Significant players in the west are also Santa Domenica and Strojopromet. Both companies made over 66 million Euro income last year.
Strojopromet (dealing with metallurgy and construction materials) profited 4.13 million Euro while Santa Domenica (distributor for Playstation, Samsung, Panasonic, HP, LG electronics) profited 2 million.
