Croatians only have themselves to blame. Even though they were a better team they just didn't have that final touch, says Diego Maradona.
Ever since Croatia's 117th-minute loss against Portugal in the Euro 2016 knockout round, everyone who ever touched a ball or watched one game of football on TV commented on the reason why Croatia didn't defeat Portugal. And while the football players are now back in Croatia, comments are still pouring in, but the one we will single out came from the legendary football player Diego Armando Maradona on June 27,2016, in his column for the Times of India.
Before the Croatia Portugal match, Maradona warned the Portuguese squad they were too dependent on Ronaldo, and after the game, he wrote: “Croatia can only blame itself for the defeat. They were better than Portugal but lacked that final move. Modric and Rakitic, on the other hand, did not trigger their creative spark that creates chances”.
“Yes, Ronaldo and his team were lucky, but that’s football. For the first time during this Euro, they showed unity and this will can bring many good things in the next phase of the competition. Croatians had their chances but Pepe saved them all. In the end, Portugal went through thanks to one single shot on target”. Argentinian football genious concluded.
