Neon Ads and Fluorescent Lighting Taking Over Zagreb

By 28 June 2016

NEONation is a generation of all of us who grew up being bombarded with ads, sounds and artificial lighting.

“Me and the Machine”, an inventive fashion duo, has created a true fashion treat for their show’s visitors, but also for passers-by in downtown Zagreb. The new collection NEONation was presented two nights ago at their first solo event that made things very interested, reports Večernji List on June 28, 2016.

„We are happy with what we were able to achieve; we wanted the street to turn into a catwalk so that all the guests and everyone else can become a part of our fashion story. NEONation generation is a generation of all of us who grew up in an urban environment, a kind of an environment in which all our senses are bombarded by the ads, sounds and (artificial) lighting“, explained Vanja Veselić and Berislav Kovačević.

For this specific collection they have focused on the city, the media environment, and advertisement lights in the context of sensation, abstract emotions and artificial energy. The collection is also characterized by unisex and bold pieces, which are also very wearable and work well at any time of day, from early morning to late night. Another feature that this duo is known for is their already recognizable minimalist signature.

“We played with neon shades and fluorescent Plexiglas details. We were inspired by the technology that is disappearing and being replaced by the newer ones, such as neon light objects and fluorescent lighting, elements that are currently often found in galleries as a tool of artistic expression. We placed these elements into the contemporary urban environment – city streets. Therefore, they took on an entirely new form and a context of a fashion object, while conveying the message and refreshing the memory of the city where, until recently, neon signs were simply inevitable”, they explained.

Vanja and Berislav added that they were happy to be able to organize the event at Supercaffe, at the place which inspired the collection – city streets, artificial night lights and the bustling energy of the city.
