From the summit in Paris, important news for relations between Croatia and Serbia.
At the summit of the Berlin Process which was held on Monday in Paris, German Chancellor Angela Merkel informed Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić that last obstacles for the opening of negotiating chapters between Serbia and the European Union had been removed, reports HRT on July 4, 2016.
In the meantime, Serbian news website B92 also reports that, as far as Croatia is concerned, there are no more obstacles for Serbia to open Chapters 23 and 24, concerning the rule of law and human rights, in its accession negotiations with the EU.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn also confirmed on Twitter that Croatia had agreed to the opening of the chapters.
According to B92, Vučić told reporters after the summit of leaders of the Western Balkans countries and the European Union in Paris that Serbia was now more optimistic about the future, that much remains to be done, but that he believed that Serbia would be supported by the EU.
“German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Serbia and asked everybody to support Serbia on its European path”, said Vučić, adding that the meeting was good and noting that others were more optimistic than him.
According to B92 sources, Croatia earlier put forward its comments about the opening of negotiation chapters with Serbia and other member states accepted its comments.
Croatia was represented at the summit in Paris by Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković.
