Croatian Craft Beer Series: ABA 5th Element

By 16 July 2016

Today we continue our Croatian craft beer series with ABA 5th Element, brewed in the Slavonian town of Daruvar.

Daruvar brewery has been producing beer since 1840 and is the oldest Croatian brewery that operates continuously. Daruvar brewery is also responsible for making ABA 5th Element.

ABA 5th Element is an unfiltered and unpasteurized American Blonde Ale, giving it a much shorter shelf life than other beers. The 5th Element is also a beer with a much higher fermentation than most, meaning that there are more hops and stronger aromas.

This beer has a clear golden color that is perfectly coupled with a citrus and fruity aroma. Although not too bitter, 5th Element is refreshing and balances sweetness and bitterness, making it not too heavy with plenty of flavor.

Using the most traditional method, all of the bottle filling for ABA 5th Element is done by hand. All of the brewery workers have their part and duty in the beer bottling process, making for a proper old school and traditional hands on experience.

ABA 5th Element is distributed to beer lovers through 5 different labels, all representing the different classical elements: water, air, earth and fire. Yes, we are aware that this craft is considered the 5th element, so where does that come from? The brewers love of course! The special ABA 5th element is the heart, soul, and love ABA brewers put into this special craft beer, and we promise, we can even taste it.

Because beer lovers are inclined to enjoy their beer more if it has a good history and backstory, each bottle label for the 5th Element is a different color with its own respective symbol, and the back label on each bottle portraying a different story.

ABA 5th Element can currently be found throughout Croatia, with a much heavier dominance in Zagreb. Go and get your hands on one!
