Great news for Croatia's rich castle heritage.
Brilliant news has arrived from the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds. Virovitica-Podravina County (VPŽ) and Virovitica town have passed the “Integrated Development Programmes Based on Development of Cultural Heritage” tender and will receive non-refundable funds for the castle restoration projects, Janković castle in Suhopolje and Pejačević castle in Virovitica
The Suhopolje castle Janković has been empty and in ruins for decades, set to be renovated with European Union funds in a project written up by the VIDRA Regional Development Agency of VPŽ, valued at over 5.3 million Euro, headed by the County, Vpz.hr reported on July 29, 2016.
This is another EU project by the VPŽ over the 5 million Euro value. In a line of large EU projects, the leading one is the Pannonian Timber Competency Centre with a 6 million Euro price tag, set to open in September as part of the VPŽ Day celebrations.
But as good news doesn’t come on their own, another great headline arrived from the same address. Another Slavonian beauty is to be restored - Pejačević castle in the very centre of Virovitica. It is a project by Virovitica town, weighing in at 10.5 million Euro and applied by the Virovitica Development Agency. Besides the castle, the midtown park will also be renovated to give the administrative centre of VPŽ a beautiful visage.
In other news, a financing contract is due to be signed soon by the Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Tomislav Tolušić, VPŽ prefect in charge Sanja Bošnjak, mayor of Virovitica Ivica Kirin and SAFU principal Tomislav Petric.
