Good Vibrations in Istria’s Fažana: This Is How We Do It

By 3 August 2016

Fažana is one of the tourist destinations in Istria whose touristic development is one of the most successful in Istria in the past few years. While the first larger hotels in Fažana will be erected in the coming years, investments by the small fisher’s town on the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula and the camp and resort Bi Village have made the town one of the nicest spots in Istria.

Numerous, mostly not overblown events, depict the customs of the town and its surroundings, there are a host of good quality free concerts happening throughout the summer, many of which get announced only a few days earlier and there is a many kilometres long promenade which is joy throughout the year.

The once sleepy town has become one of the local’s favourite spots for a Sunday walk or a bicycle ride. The beach bars along the promenade and the boats offering daily tours of the nearby Islands and the Brijuni National park mostly belong to locals from Fažana and Pula and offer a relaxed authentic view of the life in Fažana. It is also nice to see that people from Fažana are the ones profiting from the positive development and that it sometimes doesn’t take much more than an idea to make the place even more interesting for locals and guests.

This year, for instance, the local tourist board and the municipality have installed four interactive benches and sightseeing spots and connected them to a small cycling and walking route. The spots have been designed by a local artist and are partly made of olive tree wood. A trip by boat to the Brijuni Islands National park is also part of the route and for only some HRK200 you can explore the Island on your own on a rented a bicycle, relax at the beaches and even take a swim.

Another thing which contributes to steady and sustainable development is the inclusion of local artists, olive oil producers, wine makers, restaurateurs and even the local football club Mladost Fažana in events and the development of the town. The club gives back by organising Croatia’s biggest youth football tournament.

All of the above combined, makes Fažana an example of how the tourism of the peninsula should be developed further in the future. The new walking and cycling route described above has been named “Path of Good Vibrations” and a good vibration is what you get in Fažana.
