Words of Wisdom from Tourism Journalists and Workers

By 15 August 2016

Sometimes, when one has no ideas for an interesting positively toned article but has to write about what’s happening in the region, one turns to other media for inspiration and learns that he - shouldn’t. What currently happens in the Istrian region is – tourism, and local media eagerly report about one of the favourite topics of this time of the year. Below quotes have been published in the online edition of one newspaper in three different articles, published in the course of 24 hours.

“Tourists visiting Istria are wealthier than those visiting Dalmatia” is the conclusion of one journalist in local media who judges the wealth of the incoming guests by the time he/she waits in line at the local Lidl and other supermarkets (some 15 minutes). The poor tourists in Dalmatia probably only wait for seven minutes to pay for their Polish sausage.

Italy also has a lot to offer, so it’s hard to attract Italians to visit - is roughly Croatia’s highest positioned tourism representative’s sun glassed view on attracting more Italian tourists.

“Illegal campers cut off tree branches and prepare barbeques with a view more attractive than the one at the Copacabana or the overcrowded and overpriced Côte d'Azur.” Says the worldly philosopher caught in the body of a local reporter to illustrate the joys of illegal camping along the Istrian coast.
