Sandra Perković Won The Olympic Gold Medal!

The single regular throw was enough for the Croatian discus thrower

Sandra Perković won the Olympic gold medal in Rio De Janeiro on August 16. 2016! Once again, just like in last night’s qualification, she put her fans through a nightmare, as her first two attempts were not valid. It all went down to the third one, but Sandra stepped up when the tough got going. She threw the disc at the 69.21 mark, and it was clear that it was too far for the competition.

Her three final attempts also were not valid, although the fifth throw was even better than the third one she stepped out of the throwing circle, so it was not to be counted. It is the second Olympic gold medal for Sandra Perković, as she was the winner at the London Olympics four years ago too.

In her first media appearance after winning the gold, she apologized to her fans for the scare she gave them but said that she was very nervous, as there was not enough time to rest between the qualifiers and the final series.

Sandra added that the mental strength came from thousands of hours in training, and she was not to allow herself to lose the medal she dreamt of for the last four years. She joked that she had lost quite a weight in the process, so she will come back home looking like a fashion model.

There is nothing else to add than congratulating Sandra on her success, and to hope she will continue her winning streak in the future. France’s Melina Robert-Michon finished second, and Cuba’s Denia Caballero won the bronze.

This is the fourth medal for the Croatian athletes in Rio, and the third gold. Later today, sailors will have the chance to get some more, while Filip Hrgović will have his quarter-final match in super-heavyweight boxing class, and the water polo team plays versus Brazil in the quarter-final of the Olympic tournament.
