Poll: In Fifth Constituency, HDZ Leads, SDP Coalition Gains One Seat

By 21 August 2016

HDZ is the most popular party in one of two Slavonian constituencies.

RTL and Jutarnji List have started publishing results of their large pre-election poll. Unlike most other polls, this one surveys each of the ten parliamentary constituencies separately, so it gives a more realistic picture about a possible number of seats that will be won by parties on election which will be held on 11 September, reports RTL on August 21, 2016.

On Sunday evening, results for the fifth parliamentary constituency were announced, covering the southern part of Slavonia. At last year’s elections, HDZ’s coalition won 46.1 percent of the vote, followed by SDP’s coalition (25.6 percent), MOST (11.5 percent), HDSSB (4.5 percent), and Živi Zid (3.9 percent). In term of parliamentary seats, HDZ’s coalition won 8 seats, SDP’s coalition 4 seats and MOST 2 seats.

According to the poll, about 60 percent of voters will definitely or probably vote, while almost 40 percent do not plan to vote.

Among those who will vote, HDZ has the support of 39.5 percent of voters, followed by the SDP-led People’s Coalition (27.2 percent), and MOST (7 percent). Živi Zid with 3.9 percent and HDSSB with 3.7 percent are below the five-percent electoral threshold. As for the seats in Parliament, HDZ would win 8 seats, People’s Coalition 5 seats and MOST one seat.

In percentage terms, HDZ has a somewhat lower support than its coalition had last November, but would win the same number of seats. MOST would lose one seat, while People’s Coalition would gain one seat.

The respondents were also asked who would be the best Prime Minister. HDZ president Andrej Plenković won with 30 percent of support, followed by SDP president Zoran Milanović with 24 percent, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić with 11 percent and MOST president Božo Petrov with 7 percent.
