Hajduk Out Of Europa League After The Penalty Shoot-out

Hajduk won in the regular time, but once again was left one goal short to qualify for the next stage

It was the most important match for Hajduk this season on August 25. 2016, and the Hajduk’s fans staged the spectacle at Poljud Stadium once again. Players responded well this time and did not break under the pressure of the big game. Hajduk took the lead after 40 minutes of play when Marko Čosić scored after Sušić’s cross from the free-kick.

Twelve minutes later, the guests were awarded the free-kick from almost the same spot, and the sneaky cross by Scarione ended up on the left post of the home goal and bounced back to the net.

Hajduk was not to give up, and just seven minutes later, again Sušić crossed the ball from the free-kick and Marko Čosić headed the ball into the net.

The result remained unchanged for the rest of the regular time, and the extra-time, and although Hajduk had a couple of good goal scoring opportunities, it all came down to the penalty shoot-out.

Lovre Kalinić, Hajduk’s goalkeeper, managed to save two penalty shots by the guests, but as Hajduk players missed one more, Poljud Stadium was silenced after more than two hours of the loud support.

After the few moments of silence, the players were awarded standing ovations for their effort, as they were simply out of luck this time against the much stronger team.
