MOST wants the major parties to state their position on its conditions for postelection cooperation.
MOST spokesman Nikola Grmoja said on Thursday that HDZ and SDP had not yet responded to their conditions which are a prerequisite for future cooperation, reports Index.hr on September 8, 2016.
“Those who demonstrate that they are willing to implement our conditions, they are potential candidates for partners in a new government. We expect that these proposals will be voted on and accepted”, said Grmoja at a press conference. He added that it was obvious that both HDZ and SDP wanted to discuss the conditions only after the elections, if it turns out they need MOST to form a government.
He said that MOST’s conditions were a step towards a better and more transparent Croatia. “Their only goal is to stop MOST, because we have demonstrated that we cannot be bought. We are the only political option which they cannot count on, since MOST will insist on the protection of national interests and implementation of reforms”, said Grmoja.
MOST representatives denied media claims that it was impossible to pass laws in Parliament before the new government is confirmed. Robert Podolnjak said that in 2011, one day before the government was formed, Parliament pass nine laws which were proposed by then SDP-led coalition.
Commenting on a statement by HDZ president Andrej Plenković, who said that he would not accept being blackmailed, Grmoja said that it was not a blackmail, but that MOST was obliged to implement the changes they had promised to citizens. “We cannot go into these elections and again later say to citizens that we are being obstructed. We want clear assurances that those who want to enter into cooperation with us are ready to implement what we have promised to voters.”
Asked what would happen if both major parties were again to agree with their terms, Grmoja answered he did not believe it could happen. He said that MOST’s demands represented “a powerful attack on the party system which has been established by HDZ and SDP”.
