Mashable Names Dubrovnik as an Essential Trip for Game of Thrones Fans

By 12 September 2016

While it’s no surprise that Dubrovnik wins over the hearts of Game of Thrones fans for their picturesque “King’s Landing” location, the popular global, digital media website Mashable picks their essential trips for the Game of Thrones fanatics of the world.

Dubrovnik has been making headlines in more ways than one this tourist season, with record high visits to the famous walls and a staggering amount of overnight stays.

Sure, the filming of Game of Thrones in Croatia’s famous walled city has definitely pumped up tourism in the town, but it’s still interesting the find the many Game of Thrones fans traveling through Croatia without knowing that they are walking within the confines of the show’s famous filming locations. We’re pretty sure this Mashable shout will change that.

While other locations throughout Croatia were also used for the show’s filming (such as Split), Mashable names the reigning “House of the Seven Kingdoms”, the wealthy Lannister’s home, as the place to be - the stunning rocky shores coupled with glistening waters make for the Mediterranean oasis that is King’s Landing.

Mashable names Dubrovnik’s world class dining scene as the perfect perk to a proper Lannister feast (suggesting Michelin star Restaurant 360 as fit for Tyrion), and Cersei sympathizers will appreciate the rich Croatian viticulture the town has to offer.

A must-see filming location in Dubrovnik: Stradun was used for a portion of Cersei’s infinite “Walk of Penance”, and the staircase used at the start of the scene begins at the St. Ignatius Church.

Mashable also suggests a quick bus ride outside of Dubrovnik to the Trsteno Arboretum to see the filming location of Red Keep’s exquisite palace gardens - used in Season 3 where Sansa lunches with Olenna and Margaery.
